The administration of US President Donald Trump has to temporarily hire the revised revision of the government, since the congress did not authorize you to carry out large personnel sections and the restructuring of agencies, a federal judge decided.
The US district judge Susan Illston in San Francisco sat down on Friday with a group of unions, non-profit organizations and local governments and blocked large-scale mass decisions that were known as “reductions” for 14 days.
“As history shows, the President can only restructure the federal authorities in general if they are approved by the congress,” said Illston.
The White House did not immediately answer a request for comments.
The verdict is the broadest of its kind against the overhaul of the government, which was led by Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, which is also CEO of the Electric Vehicle manufacturer Tesla.
Dozens of lawsuits have questioned the work of the Ministry for State Efficiency or Doge for various reasons, including violations of data protection laws and the over -control of its authority with mixed results.
Agencies that are thrown into chaos say the plaintiffs
In February, Trump instructed government authorities to work with Doge to identify goals for mass decisions as part of the administration’s restructuring plans.
Trump asked the agencies to eliminate double roles, unnecessary management layers and non -critical jobs and at the same time automate routine tasks, to close regional field offices and to reduce the use of external contractors.
“The illegal attempt by the Trump government to reorganize the Federal Government has thrown agencies into chaos and disrupted critical services in our nation,” says a statement from the plaintiff’s coalition.
“Each of us represents communities that are deeply invested in the efficiency of the federal government – if the federal employee released the federal employees and by chance that government functions do not reach.”
The US federal employees were instructed to justify their work this weekend by submitting five list signs for their achievements from the past week or having a termination. In the initiative conducted by Elon Musk and his team of the Ministry of Government Efficiency (Doge), republican support, democratic opposition and warnings of legal challenges.
Illston planned a hearing for May 22nd to consider a long -lasting injunction.
She said that the plaintiffs were likely to be successful in her complaint, which had been submitted on April 28, and claimed that Trump had exceeded his authority. It was also said that the office for management and budget, Doge and Office of Personal Management exceeded their authority and violated administrative law.
Illston said that the plaintiffs may be able to suffer without the temporary injunction, which said that she keeps the status quo.
According to Illston, the plaintiffs submitted more than 1,000 pages of evidence and 62 jury, and it emphasized part of the material.
For example, she said that the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and its office in Pittsburgh, in which the health risks for miners were examined, had ended 221 of the 222 workers in the department, citing the union. She gave similar examples in the local offices of Head Start, the Early Learning, Farm Service Agency and the Social Security Administration.
“The Court of Justice does not examine the potential loss of income of an individual employee, but rather the widespread termination of salaries and services for individuals, families and communities,” wrote Illston in her judgment.
