The three -time Olympic champion Adam Peaty has announced his intention to compete in the 2028 games in Los Angeles after adding 50 meters to the swimming program.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Wednesday officially approved the involvement of six new LA28 events – men and women 50 million for the rank, breasts and butterflies.
Peaty is a three -time champion in the world and four times European in 50 million breast shocks.
The 30-year-old posted on Instagram: “The 50m Sprint events have just been added to @la28games which confirms my attempt to be in my fourth Olympic games.
“This is the best result for our extraordinary sport and will allow more people to be part of it and stay in it much longer. Thank you @world_aquatics for this amazing decision.
“I have a good feeling for these next three years.”
Peaty won the 100m -breast Olympic title in the Rio 2016 debut before holding it in Tokyo 2020, in addition to the 4x100m mixed gold claim in Japan.
Among the physical issues, including a positive Covid test, the 30-year-old had to choose for Bay Silver in Paris last year while Italian swimmer Nicolo Martinenghi received his crown.
Females decide to exceed males in the Olympic Games in 2028
Los Angeles 2028 is set to show more female athletes than males at a historic moment for the Olympics.
A total of 10,500 athletes will compete in 31 sports in the original program – just like Paris 2024.
With gender equality a major consideration, IOC announced on Wednesday an approved quota of 5,333 seats for women and 5,167 for men.
In all of the five new sports proposed by the LA28 organization Committee and supported by IOC – Baseball/Softball, T20 Cricket, Flag Football, Lacrosse and Squash – there will be 322 places for female sneakers and 376 for male competitors.
For the first time in Olympic history, all team sports will have at least the same number of women’s teams as men’s teams.
Two female teams have been added to the water polo program, making it 12 for each gender, while an additional category of women’s weights ensures gender equality in boxing.
Meanwhile, the women’s football competition will rise from 12 to 16 teams, with the men’s tour reduce from 16 to 12.
Speaking after a meeting of the Executive Board of the Governing Body in Lausanne, Switzerland, IOC Kit McConnell’s sports director said: “This program really gives a powerful platform and promotion of female sneakers for the first time in Olympic history.
“There will be more quota places available for qualification for women than for men, achieving full gender equality in boxing and polo water, to add all the other sports we have achieved gender equality in Paris.”
The 2028 event is planned to take place from July 14-30.
