Ruben Amorim says the spat between Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana and Nemanja Matic to Lyon in front of the Europa League’s quarter -final tie between the two sides is all a “misunderstanding”.
Amorim side trip to Groupama Stadium for the first match of this make-and-sectional collision knowing that the competition offers their only way to jeweler and continental qualification.
Former Matic Midic Middle -Named Onana “one of the worst goalkeepers in Man Utd’s history” after Cameroon International had said he felt united is “better way” than lyon.
Comments of the fall of Matic’s jaws were followed by a posting on X by Onana shaking the fact that United did not win a trophy in the five midfielder seasons at Old Trafford.
TETE-ETE was a key spoken point at the United Press Conference, where former Matic’s team of Benfica’s team, Amorim, tried to distribute the tension and secure the context.
“Tomorrow (Thursday) it will not matter,” said the coach’s chief. “If you see Andre Onana’s full quote, it’s quite different.
“The first sentence is Lyon is a very, very good team, so I think sometimes players or coaches don’t listen to the full quotes.
“Sometimes it’s just a misunderstanding and I also know Matic. He’s a great guy. It will be a normal game.”
Amorim confirmed that Onana will begin in Lyon despite Altay Bayindir’s return to the gym and believes the 29-year-old, signed by Inter Milan in 2023, will find the goods about his unpleasant comments.
“Really really difficult to deal with this,” he said.
“That’s for sure. Again, if you look at quotations, you can’t see disrespect there. Just respect, but trying to give confidence and show confidence in his team, especially this year.
“So everyone can talk bad things about Manchester United. Sometimes our group as a player, as a coach, as a staff, have to show some confidence in our team. I think that’s everything.
“Again, I know Nemanja Matic really well and how good a boy is. He listens to some things half, not the whole story. This is clear to me in this situation.”
Did Onana really said about Lyon?
Onana was in a safe mood when she spoke to the press after holding his ninth leaf of the season Premier League in Drab Derby Derby Sunday with Manchester City.
Asked about Lyon before the first match of Thursday’s quarter -finals, he said: “It’s a very good team. We know some of them, but I don’t think we have to focus on them. More about us, what we will do.
“I think we are better than them, we just have to go there and show who we are. If we go there with a winning mentality and are focused, stay compact and together and we follow the game plan we will win the game.
“Of course, it won’t be easy, but I think we’re better than them. We all know the importance of this game, we’ll get there with the winning mentality, it’s not our best season, but we still have something to win and we will go for it.”
Analysis: An exchange of jaw press conference
Sky Sports News’ Melissa Reddy in Lyon:
It is a rare phenomenon to sit at a press conference, and be completely shocked – eyes as wide as the room itself, just competing with the stretch of your mouth and a long breath.
When Nemanja Matic began his response to Andre Onana’s assertion that Manchester United are “better” than Lyon, she had a feeling of Eminem “He didn’t just say what I think did, did he?”
There were only two UK -based journalists present at the media brief, Simon Peach from Pa and I. When we looked around the room before reaching Matic, we thought it would be a low key issue as the total number of journalists present was not in double figures.
We had a quick conversation about what we thought we had to ask Matic that was not covered in his latest interviews. He was a friend of Ruben Amorim team in Benfica, and I wanted to research that relationship and which features the Portuguese had as a player who translated into training.
Simon was the journalist who asked Onana what he was expecting from Lyon in the mixed area on Sunday and was understood to have wanted to hear Matic’s response.
The reception was that the midfielder simply would say ‘we mean to try it wrong in the field’. Instead, Matic pulled a page from Jose Mourinho’s game book in a response that his former manager would afford a standing ovation.
Before uttering a word, his face hinted what would come. Matic began to answer the question … “To say that, you must have a cover for something like that.” Then, with a tone that screams ‘seriously?’, He looked at Simon and asked “Onana?” Before falling his cheeks.
Knockout soon followed: “When you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man Utd’s history, you have to take care of what you are talking about … If De Gea, or Peter Schmeichel or Van der Sar say, I will wonder, but when you are statistically one of the worst goalkeepers in modern history, you must first say this.”
Matic did not crash as he went to studs up, with two legs and off the ground. I was then told that Lyon’s team was already aware of the quote and was securing the motivation of the dressing room.
Onana’s response, divided into X, had a zinger of a final line.
His quote on Sunday was more optimistic and positive in front of a big game than not to respect. His post on social media, however, was spicy.
Can I support it in the field and will the game be just as explosive?
Until we discover it, I will take my jaw from the floor.
