Corey Flintoff, the 19-year-old son of the former Captain of England and the winner of Ashes Andrew, has signed a two-year novice contract with Kent-and could go against brother Rocky in the District Championship this season.
Corey, a swift inclusive as his father, will be entitled to Kent about his university studies after joining a district now trained by former Adam Holloake Skipper.
The young man, who came through Lancashire Pathways, bowed four regular overs in the two-day heating of Kent against Essex last week in front of their District District District Division in Northamptonshire from April 4 after last year’s removal.
Corey vs Brother Rocky in Division Two?
The younger brother of Corey Rocky, 16, will join him in the Division two with Lancashire also leaving the high flight in 2024.
Kent will play Lancashire in Blackpool in June before welcoming them in Canterbury a month later for the return match.
Rocky made his district championship and a debut day for Lancashire last summer, while this winter he became the youngest player to have a century for the Lions of England, breaking his father’s record when he reached three figures against an Australia XI cricket in Brisbane.
Andrew Flintoff – who made more than 200 appearances for England between 1998 and 2009 – was Luan’s main coach in that tournament.
Corey Flintoff: Kent is the right place for me
When he joined Kent, Corey said: “I am glad to continue my development as a player under Adam Holloake and the excellent training staff here. Lovers in the dressing room have been so welcome for me and there is a great atmosphere here.
“I am excited about what is else for me and I know Kent is the right place for me to take the step up to the first team cricket.”
Kent’s director of Cricket Simon Cook said: “Corey is an extremely exciting young player and has excellent skills to score and get wicks.
“He is a very difficult worker and I know he is extremely determined to make a name for himself in professional cricket. We are glad he thinks he can do it as a cricket.”
