Gary Neville said Arsenal left himself in the Premier League title race after failing to sign anyone in the winter transfer window.
Liverpool is now 11 clear points at the top of the Premier League with 11 games to go after the Capitalization of Arsenal’s home loss to West Ham winning 2-0 in Manchester City with a predominant show against champions.
Arsenal was forced to play midfielder Mikel Mrino in front of West Ham after losing first -choice attackers Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus for finished injuries, while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are also out.
Arsenal knew that they would be without Saka and Jesus to anticipate with the time left in the transfer window, but decided not to sign one before Havertz and Martinelli were also removed and they appeared to have paid the price.
Asked if the loss of that quartet ahead is a fair protection to fall so far after Liverpool, Neville said Podcast Gary Neville: “It’s a protection, but then you have to plan for it.
“I know they didn’t want to do business in the January transfer window, they thought it had no value in the market, or they could not get the player who would enter and influence them.
“But they have left themselves short. There is no doubt about it, and they have fallen short.”
He added: “I know they have lost Saka and Jesus, and I know they have lost Havertz, which is a big problem for Arsenal, but I still think you have to do that work against West Ham at home” .
Neville expects Arsenal to be particularly frustrated by the short fall in the season when Manchester City left after finishing champions for the last two years.
“When City wouldn’t be there, the team that was supposed to be there was Arsenal,” Neville said.
“It won’t be them, it won’t seem, and that’s the big shock and surprise. That will be the one that will hit the most in that Arsenal room, and with Mikel arts and players because they” the cloud of desperate to win a title.
“Liverpool has attracted two in the last three, they have attracted four in the last eight, Arsenal had a chance to get back closer, they could have gone within five points (against West Ham).”
Neville also accused the side of Mikel Artesa of becoming fixed with the parts located to the detriment of their fluidity in the open game this season.
“For arsenal, they have become quite rigid, they have become quite brave ever to see,” Neville said.
“I felt there was an obsession with the placed parts, which almost transcend the whole game, exacerbated by the fact that there is the presence of the coach of the designated part on the touch line.
“I feel like freedom has gone a little of them.”
Analysis: Villa window highlights Arsenal deficiencies
Sky Sports’ Zinny Boswell:
Arsenal worked hard to sign one forward during the transfer window, but decided he did not have a player available in the market that would have improved them.
Aston Villa’s winter signatures and their success in the short space of a few weeks demonstrates that this was incorrect.
Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford, Loan Signatures by Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, came with visible risks after a delightful form, but have made an immediate impact.
The depth was clearly a matter for Villa and they addressed it by signing two experienced players in the temporary agreement. It raises the question of why Arsenal did not follow a similar approach.
Arsenal’s first priority should definitely be offensive, but they are also short in front, as illustrated by the arts bringing to two leftists, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Myles Lewis-Skelly, when West Ham traced Saturday.
Can you imagine how best Arsenal could have been if it had been Asensio to leave the bench?
There is a sense that every signature must be the perfect one, maybe this is more reality under the current premier league expense rules, but this can be no excuse for Arsenal here. The addition of troops was essential.
The lack of a permanent replacement for the sports director Edu Gaspar may have played a role. So can the lack of scorers at the elite level.
Whatever the issue, Arsenal has left itself short in the City season have fallen from the quarrel. And has probably dedicated them to the title.
