Carla Bernat Escuder from Spain gave a gem of a show with a strong kick to start nine and a four -legged kick for a four under 68 to win the Augusta national amateur title.
Bernat Escuder, who grew up in the same region as Masters Champion Sergio Garcia and US amateur champion Jose Luis Ballester, constituted a two -blow deficit against English defensive champion Lottie Woad and held a late accusation by Asterisk Talley in Augusta National.
“For now, I don’t think my brain has elaborated I won,” Bernat Escuder said after clinking its success with a kick with a total of 204.
She did it with little help from her Spanish heritage. Garcia’s father, Victor, is one of her coaches and she recently relyed on Ballester – they have been friends since the age of seven – because she felt her short game was missing.
This was tested while the Bernat Escuder started nine back. She left her rapprochement to the right of the bunker, one of the most difficult points to be, with the golf ball just on her feet. Bernat Escuder hit a wonderful kick hit in 12 meters and greeted the first par.
“I knew the tournament would start at No. 10 because I looked at all masters,” she said, a reference to the famous phrase that the masters do not start until the ninth Sunday. “As soon as I hit that second blow, I was like,” Oh, I have to collect it together and take this par. “I was dug and I think that was the key.”
Its direction was just a shot at that point – it turned out to 33 – and that would change.
Woad was seeking to become the first back-back winner of the Augusta national women’s amateur. She was related to the lead with Kiara Romero going to the last group, the first bird and led by two early. But everything moved to 10.
By the right path, she was aggressive with her approaching and pulled the left and over the green, in a shrub. Woad had to get a penalty drop, catch and lose Putt, giving it a double double and leaving her three shootings behind.
“I did a good pace in it. It was just the wrong club,” said Woad, who went with a five iron. “He thought he was supposed to be in the wind, and out of the way out he turned out more or less flat, so he should have only hit one less club.
She had to follow, just like the year ago when she gave a memorable ninth charge. This time, she could only manage two birds and close with a 72 to finish the third in nine under.
“Very frustrated,” Woad said.
The charge came from Talley, a women’s amateur in the US and the competitor of little American girls, who started the last round leaving the first road to Eagle.
Exiting a bird in the 16th to arrive within three shootings, Talley struck a tremendous recovery from under the left of the 17th Street. The ball stood under the limbs and rolled along the edge of the bunker, using the entire slope to reach about 18 meters behind the hole.
Instead of clashing for the first, she decided to blow Birdie to give herself a chance.
Talley, however, was very strong with its approach to 18, leaving the ball at the upper level with the hole about 40 meters away at its typical Sunday masters location. She did well with two putt for par and a 68.
In the group behind was Bernat Escuder, who was also in the tree at 17, placed it in a bunker and made Bogey. This cut off her superiority in a stroke with a hole to play.
The Spaniard found the right road, also hit the highest level and sailed on a four -legged bumper to finish one ahead of Talley and claim success in what has already become as prestigious as any amateur event of women in the world.
