Australia was relieved in a nine-win win over Sri Lanka in the second Galle test to complete a 2-0 series win and send the opening of the Dimuth Karunaratne home with a loss.
USMAN KHAWAA (27NO), Marnus Labuschagne (26no) and Travis Head (20) took their tourists in the target of 75 to 17.4 overs in the fourth morning – and on a triumph of first series in Sri Lanka since year 2011 – with Labuschagne grabbing the only profit through the square foot from the outside -part -time out -of -turning.
Sri Lanka was previously rejected for 231 in their second cases after adding 20 runs to 211-8 overnight.
Nathan Lyon (4-84) – who now has 553 tests test for Australia – and Beau Webster (2-6) claimed respectively the last two scalps, removing Kusal Mendis (50) and Tailender Lahiru Kumara (9) respectively.
Karunaratne had been in Matthew Kuhnemann (4-63) for 14 the day before in his last rehearsals, after making 36 on the first day as he started his 100th and last match in the format.
The tail ends his trial career with 7,222 runs, fourth on the list of all time of Sri Lanka after Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Angelo Mathews.
The end of the karunaratne match for the rotation was then the first time he was bent in a test in nearly three years
The Galle test was also a historic moment for Steve Smith, Australia, whose fourth century in five matches shifted it to 36 in total, to the level with Joe Root, England, and Rahul David.
Smith’s five captures in the match took it to 200 in the tests, eclipping Australia’s previous record of 196 set by Ricky Ponting.
Australia – who won the first test in the same place with once and 242 runs – will now play Sri Lanka in a two -game series before 19 February to 9 March.
Sri Lanka did not qualify for the champions trophy after completing the ninth of 10 sides in the 2023 World Cup in India.
