Barrie Mcdermott of Rugby League Sky Sports takes us through the biggest scenes and his big predictions for the seventh round of the Super League season …
On Thursday night, I thought Leeds was strong without being spectacular but take Home when I was leaving the match was James McDonnell and the way he performed.
As we know, Leeds signed Kallum Watkins again and all conversations relate to where he will play and what kind of role he will have, and how influential he will be in the environment.
He is a winner and he was there at that time of golden generation, so he knows what he looks like, and he knows what he needs to get to that point and he knows what he needs to stay there.
However, what he does is create a really healthy competition in the team and this is probably evident in the way McDonnell played. He knows he should be in the main form and James Bentley is the same, Morgan Gannon is the same.
That is that environment that brings the best to people and will be torn apart because if they cannot endure that competition, they tend not to be in it for long.
It was good signs for Leeds but after all, Salford and the situation in which they are, is now just a shame. We have said this before, but it must really be resolved faster than later.
Hull Kr VS Wigan Warriors – Friday April 11 (Sky Sport Action, 7.30 Afternoon)
Then the game of the round Friday evening while Hull Kr gets Wigan in a big final repetition from 2024. Kr are coming from behind a very impressive derby performance in what may have been a complicated match against Hull FC in Cup Compled.
They came up with extraordinary loans and I think we will learn much more about Hull Kr and their mentality and their attitude in this.
Wigan were big winners in their last match against Salford but the last month or more has not been great for Wigan, they are having a shaking. Teamdo Excellent team will have a shake at a point of the season – will this game be where Wigan starts to get their season back on the right track in the most difficult circumstances?
It is always an extraordinary atmosphere in Hull Kr and Wigan are after a victory of moral growth. But the robins that have received Robins mean it is a certain 50-50 game.
Mikey Lewis was not even available for Hull Kr, his absence would weaken each side. But Jesus Litten was extraordinary last week and this shows the quality of the Willie Peter team has taken to his fingers when one of the best players in the league can go out and still does not stop how dangerous they are.
It can be several points in the same way that ensures victory.
Barrie forecast: Hull kr fito.
St Helens Vs Wakefield Trinity – Friday April 11 (Sky Sports+, 8:00)
This is a complicated to try and anticipate. St Helens are in a real routine at the moment. Even when they are winning, you get the impression that it is not enough to make the camp and the spectators calm down and be happy.
They are also missing some players from HIA last week, so they are very in number.
Wakefield are a really complicated opposition, they can give anyone a game on their day. Daryl Powell has brought a side that is in his image – throw the ball around, ask him questions, then be stoic in defense.
This is a complicated for the saints, but I feel like they have to win, so I will support them.
Barrie Forecast: St Helens wins with 7 points.
Warrington Wolves Vs Hull FC – Saturday April 12 (Sky Sports+, 5.30 Afternoon)
Warrington got into the bag for the challenge cup and they are just gathering momentum. George Williams came up with the crucial game of the match, but the mentality of staying in grinding, staying in the distance and really trying and working their opposition is starting to bear fruit.
They have taken some classy players, will have confidence and wait ahead for this game.
Hull FC under John Cartwright are all together a different perspective, but they were overloaded last week in the challenge cup. It was a case that reminded them that they still have a lot of work to do.
I think they are a good side but not as good as going to Warrington and win.
Barrie Forecast: Warrington with 8 points.
Castleford Tigers Vs Leopards Leigh – Saturday April 12 (Sky Sports+, 8:00)
This is a simple one. If Leigh come up with the right attitude, they will win and get some points while they are doing it.
But Castleford tigers need to be improved, they need to be better, they need to start to understand what it takes to win a game.
For Danny McGuire, you can see how frustrated it is whenever it talks about its side. He talks about what they do during the week and how this is not reflected in a match day. This shows the frustration he is feeling because he is a man who knows how to win and knows what it is about. He is trying to get the best from his team.
Barrie Forecast: Leigh wins with 12 points.
Huddersfield Giants Vs Catalans Dragons – Sunday 13 April (Sky Sports+, 3 Afternoon)
Much is said about the Catalans and the Toulouse and a French presence in our game. I am always in favor of the Catalan dragons, you have to make it work, we have to support them as good as we can.
There are other elements outside the field that is considered, but in terms of the field-they have been in the big finals and have a challenge victory. You cannot question what Steve McNamara and his team have done over the last decade.
This game against Giants, they must continue to do their things on the field to calm what is happening in the field.
It feels like it is simply becoming tougher, and tougher and tougher for Luke Robinson’s team.
Barrie prediction: Catalans earn with 12 points.
