Daizen Maeda struck late for Celtic to give them a rescue in their Champions League tie against Bayern Munich while they lost 2-1 in their first match in Parkhead.

Michael Olise and Harry Kane put Bayern in full control of the tie with goals on each side of the half time, while the Scottish champions returned to the return path with a sharp goal from Maeda 11 minutes from time to corner.

Celtic pushed for an equalizer, refusing to choose only a single goal after Bayern threatened to crumble under pressure, but the hosts could not find a way through Manuel Neuer in the closing stages.

Olise, former Crystal Palace, had broken Celtic’s stubborn resistance just seconds before half the time with an unstoppable blow near the post and the Captain of England then pulled into no note four minutes after resumption.

Celtic was disciplined for much of the first half, but their concentration collapsed after the Olise’s splendor with an inexplicable mistake leaving them completely free to score his 29th goal of the season for club and country.

Arbitrator Jesus Gil Manzano was sent to his monitor for a possible penalty check against Bayern when Celtic traversed two goals, however repetitions showed that the Dayot Upamecano took the ball before going to Nicolas Kuhn.

Celtic never gave up and found no progress in a corner as Maeda headed out of a close range, scoring his fourth goal of the season’s champions league to keep the hopes of his live team before the second match of Tuesday in Munich.

‘We still have right in the tie’

Celtic manager Brandan rodgers TNT Sports:

“The last 25 minutes, we started crushing the game, we were more active at the first end of the field and you see what brought – aggression. Our football starts to become alive and then we get the goal.

“At 2-1, Bayern Munich is hanging out. That’s what we can get from it. We have one more blow.

“It’s a new level for many of the players, they have made absolutely great. Let’s go and have no regrets and see where he takes us.

“We’ve shown that we can play football and be a threat. We still have the right in the tie. With their quality and the number of goals they can score, sometimes these may be out of spotlight but it wasn’t that all over. ”

Kane: we had to stay strong

Bayern Munich attacker Harry Kane Talking about TNT Sports:

“Whenever you win a game like this, you are always pleased because it’s not an easy place to come.

“There were definitely the area in the game in which we could have done better and we would have to improve for next week, but we generally score in a timely manner.

“They put us under pressure at the end and we had to stay strong, which we did.

“We knew the atmosphere would help them at the beginning of the game and they almost scored after a minute. We had to be patient, we knew we would have more ball. Sometimes you need some special quality to open a game like this. “

Wilson: Celtic has a little chance!

First Celtic defense counsel Mark Wilson In football special:

“Celtic has a very few chance to pass!

“They have to do what they don’t do too often and win away from home in Europe, especially at Allianz Arena – it will be very difficult.

“The purpose of Maeda gives them a subtle hope that comes into play and it is certainly better than the way it was going to the clock sign because Bayern were just a quality over Celtic for that full period.”
