Sporting have confirmed a deal with Chelsea on the transfers of Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo.
Chelsea could pay up to 41.9 million for Quenda, who turns 18 in April after moving rapidly to secure the future of the arm, who was attracting interest from Manchester United.
Quenda entered the first sports team under the chief of United Ruben Amorim this season and will stay with the Portuguese club by 2026.
Essugo, a 20-year-old defense midfielder currently in Las Palmas in Laliga, is set to cost £ 18.5m. He will join Chelsea this summer.
Quenda, who has played as a side and side for the sport, is expected to sign a seven -year deal with an extra 12 months and has already passed his medicine.
The young man is understood to have chosen Chelsea in interest from a number of other clubs and he liked the fact that they wanted to give them time to bake and grow as a player.
Essugo has also had his medicine and it is understood that Chelsea looks at him as a ball winner who will take regular minutes under Enzo Maresca and add depth to their team.
He became the youngest player of Sporting when he made his first team debut a week after turning 16 in 2021.
Why Chelsea grabbed Quenda ‘Saka-like’
Of course a side, it is easy to reach for Lamine Yamal, also with left heels, when looking for a profile similar to Geovany Quenda. Before Barcelona was also born in 2007.
“I understand comparison, but Geo covers so much space,” said Fabio Roque, youth coach Quenda in Sporting Heavenly As part of Ongoing series.
“Geo is so sought after with himself in defensive moments. To close, to recover quickly, to win the protective duels for his teammates. This reminds me of Bukayo Saka at the beginning of his career when he played as a back.”
Arsenal ahead, says Roque, is the most accurate comparison for Quenda. But he makes it clear that this does not tell the whole story of the teen’s potential.
“There is only one Quenda Geovany,” says Roque. “He is different from any other player I have trained. He can create a sign in football that is completely different.
“We are talking, with Lamine Yamal and Estevao Willian (decided to join Chelsea in the summer of 2025), perhaps the best players in that generation born in 2007.”
