Ryan Moore had to become serious with Lambourn as he put himself in the photo Betfred Derby when he provided Aidan O’Brien with an 11th, 11th record, Chester Vase Vase Stakes Victory.
Sent from favorite 11/8, Australia’s son was tracing the early pace of the second and eventual and third – Lazy Griff and Charlie Johnston and the convergent of Karl Burke – but came out of the bridge as the race began to develop, with the number one of his fueling fees.
Moore sang his assembly by rounding his turn home, and his ready -made partner responded to any request from Shalja while he galloped for what was eventually a light and semi -success length.
Lambourn was then cut from 50/1 to 25/1 by both Ladbrokes and Coral for Epsom feature on June 7.
Coolmore representative Paul Smith said: “I am very happy with this Colt, a beautiful Colt from Australia.
“As you can see, he is lazy in the way he runs and he is first from the bridge often and a little green. He will learn a lot from today, he has a big engine and Ryan likes, he is a big, honest horse.
“I think he is a good horse that will stay on the journey, will do everything for you and he has to be in the derby mix.
“I think the key is to remove the rehearsals from the road (before we know what type of horse he is). It is’ an old cliché, but we won’t know until they are over and we have a better look then we can make an appreciation.”
Johnston said about the 25/1 race. “It was a fantastic run, especially given that he lost a little work three weeks ago and it was touch and go if we were to get here for a short time.
“I’m sure we can have him more capable than he was today, he was only about 80 percent capable so that the bodies would go ahead.
“Joe (Fanning) said he appreciated the juice on the ground. Every week, I would have been on the phone falling in love, but he needed it!
“We will be a little hesitant to the very fast land, which can dictate where we go.
“He is in English, Irish and German derbies and you will probably see it in one.
“He would have been overlooked in the bet because he would have been beaten three times in his life, but in the estimates he should have finished second.
“I’m sure because he is owned by a union they are all thinking about a derby, while I probably think he can win another!”
