Big champion twice Collin Morikawa believes PGA Tour should follow the LPGA Tour’s lead in the slow game.
According to the new policies that will take effect in March, the LPGA players who take one to five seconds more than the time allowed to play their goal will receive a fine.
Players who take six to 15 seconds more to play their goal will receive a penalty with a blow and those who receive more than 16 seconds longer will be given a two -stroke penalty.
While Jacob Skov Olesen of Denmark was given a penalty with a blow during the first round of the Australian PGA Championship of 2024 BMW in Tour World DP, the last PGA Tour penalty was handed over in 2017.
“With the fans aspect, I understand that they are complaining of a slow game, but if you showed them more shots, I don’t think they would complain about slow game, right?” Morikawa said at a press conference in front of the genesis
Invitation.
“But it’s a matter in the tournament. In no way is something to be looked at. It has to be resolved.
“Of course you see what the LPGA is doing. You have to start fine people. Look, if I was going to hit my hand and get a fine, I would absolutely not want to be fined again.
“Just like NBA, like the techniques. Some boys are okay with fines every week for TS. If boys are okay to get technicians and receive penalties here on the tours because they are slow, so it will be.
“Something should happen and no one wants to be that Guinea Derri, that first guy to do it and take it, but that’s how it started somewhere.”
Morikawa also said he would have no problem if a list of bad times and sentences were made public, adding: “It will not be so bad if he releases a list.
“Whether it’s public or not, I think you’re focusing on the wrong thing. More than you have to do something about it, and I don’t think enough people are being fined or enough people are being penalized.”
