Thomas Tuchel praised Myles Lewis-Skelly’s “Natural Faith” after England’s debuting scored on Friday’s 2-0 victory over Albania-but has challenged Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden to improve their performances.
The 18-year-old began the Tuchel’s term with a 20-minute set of his debut in England. Arsenal defender continued to impress while England found a second through Harry have later in the game.
Speaking to the media after the game, Tuchel congratulated the bravery of the young man, who borrowed his quick trajectory early in his career.
“He’s such an open character,” Tuchel said.
“He was amazing in the camp. Filled with confidence, full of humor. You see everything in the field, out of the field. He does it with a natural belief. Thus plays football. Complete courage and quality. He was crucial and opened this game for us.”
Tuchel was also amazed with Lewis-Skelly’s versatility throughout the victory, explaining how the young man settled as a tactical weapon during the game.
“The second half, he played like eight, we wanted to take more risks,” Tuchel said.
“The first half we played in a forward 4-1 and 4-1 ahead. He played more conventional and scored more forward. He played as a No. 8 or 10. I think his best position is where he plays for Arsenal on the double left six, overturning the role.
“If you see him in games in possession in training, the quality of the first touch, body movement, the way he plays the passage is a very high understanding of the game. He is very versatile and can do a lot of things. We tried to play more conventional today because there are many players for different clubs.”
Tuchel accepts the necessary work as Foden and Rashford War
Marcus Rashford was a surprise involvement in the first Tuchel lineup in England, winning his first lid in England for more than a year. Aston Villa, borrowed from Manchester United, joined Phil Foden, who has been fighting for shape at the club level.
A barren evening for Manchester City midfielder means that Foden has failed to record either a goal or help in any of his last 17 appearances for his nation.
Asked about their post -game shows, Tuchel said: “Both of our wings were not as influential as they may be, as they are normally in club football.
“I’m not sure why we tried to bring the ball to them faster, I’m not sure why we loved us so much. We missed a little run from the ball, and not as much as they went and dribbles.
“Not as much as driving with the ball. Not as aggressive enough for the purpose. They were crucial in training, which is why we chose them.”
In Foden, he added: “We will encourage him to do what he does best: go to the defender, go to the drivers.”
