The head of the World Cup winner, Mark Robinson, says “Pin-up” Issy Wong was deteriorated by England with the fast player now out of the favor at the international level.
Wong, 20, made her debut in England in all three formats in 2022 and then appeared significantly in the marketing material for 2023 ashes at home in Australia.
However, the sailor did not play a game in that series and has since fought with constant issues, stressed in a appearance against Sri Lanka 17 months ago when she accepted 24 runs in two overs and bowed three first balls.
Robinson, speaking while serving as a TNT sports expert during this year’s women’s grace, said: “We threw it forward without the foundation to cope.
“She was the Pin-up girl and ECB as young, as a child, and then when things became a little difficult she didn’t have the means to survive.”
The 58-year-old, who led England to victory at the 2017 World Cup 50-Over, added: “ISSY is doing really well and working hard. She is still young in 22 and is fast, so Its time will come again.
“This is something to learn – how to treat the players when we expose them and when we remove them when we protect them.
“It’s not just from the game, but to protect them from the media as well as sometimes want some of them.”
Wong played two T20 internationals and a one-day international for England in Ireland in September, but was not part of the team for Ashes.
England coach Jon Lewis is under control after losing 16-0 in Ashes, but he still thinks he is the best person for work.
Said Lewis Tnt sports: “I think strongly that there is still real growth in this group of players and I really think I haven’t finished the work I came here to do.
“Of course the results haven’t gone the way we want them … But I feel like I’m the right guy to do it.”
Robinson, who left England after a 12-4 home loss in Australia in 2019, insists that the dismissal of Lewis would not necessarily be the right call, saying: “Sometimes we deceive people from the opportunity to improve and grown. “
