Jack Draper withdrew in a direct victory over Holger Rune in the BNP Paribas Open final in Indian Wells to search his first ATP title 1000 Masters.
The British No. 1 held a ruthless manifestation of power and aggression in court, and an overloaded rune could not find any response, undergoing a 6-2 6-2 loss in just 68 minutes.
Draper now ascends to a high ranking in the seventh career in the world after securing the biggest victory of his growing career.
The 23-year-old left for a prominent start, breaking Rune in the opening match before securing double rest for a 4-0 lead along the way to get the first set.
The 13th Danish seed – appearing in his fourth final of the ATP 1000 masters – broke back immediately to start the second, his disappointment that was boiling as he shouted at his team in the opening match.
Rune handed Draper another rest in the penultimate game with a backward blow he sent wide, while Draper fired a strong shock throughout the net to catch the game, kneeling in court with his fists in the air.
Draper reserved his place in the final with a 6-1 0-6 6-4 win over the reign champion twice Carlos Alcaraz, While his candidacy in Indian Wells also included victories over Brazilian Rising Star, 18-year-old Joao Fonseca, American Jenson Brooksby -Who shocked the world No. 18 Felix Aumer-Aliassime 6-4 6-2-and seeds Taylor Fritz in the 16th round AND Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals.
The Draper famously reached a first semi -finals of Grand Slam in 2024 US Open and this watershed in Indian Wells will only promote hopes for even more success.
