2024 IPL was one of the most memorable seasons ever, especially if you like to watch the ball fly from the park!
It was the season with the highest score (from one mile) and we saw some total eye watering that had to be seen to be believed. So will Bowlers bite again this year or are we for the next season where the filling records are destroyed in Smithereens?
We will discover it over the next two months and that is what you need to ask …
What is new?
Many. The first season after the last Mega auction, so each team has a very different picture for it. In fact, the unfortunate kings of Punjab have only three players from last season!
Half of the teams have new captains and there have been some major movements, including Risk Pant bought by LuckNow Super Giants for the highest fee ever (£ 2.5m) and Jos Buttler at Gujarat Titans.
Punjab have captured the winners of the title of Kolkata Shreyas Iyer and Mitchell Starc will now call Delhi at home.
As usual there will be some developing stars to keep your eyes peeled, including the newest signed player on IPL. If Vaibhav Suryavanshi plays a game for Rajasthan Royals will have a media storm … He is only 13!
Player to see?
Abhishak to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Last year Abhishek and Travis Head rewrite the book of rules on how to dive into Powerplay. The end result was some of the most incredible shocks of the first ball in the history of T20 crickets.
Twelve months now, the young Indian young man now has two hundred T20 internationals for his name and is seeking to continue to seal his authority at one of India’s opening points in the face of very fierce competition.
When sunrisers start from their beginnings make sure you are placed on the sofa with some popcorn – enjoy the show!
Englishman to impress?
Phil Salt (Royal Challengers Bangalore). I love Will Jacks to tell England what they were missing with a strong season for Mumbai, but I will go with salt to make the most impression.
He has already succeeded in IPL with Kolkata, will not be overcome on the occasion and should enjoy the small borders at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
English fans may want to get RCB again this year – SALT joins Jacob Bethell and Liam Livingstone. They are trained by Andy Flower and Mo Bobat is the director of Cricket. Maybe they have to change their name on ECB?!
Surprise package?
The capitals of Delhi. They have been missing on the play-off for three years, but I think they have a good chance for a fourth end this year after what looks like a good auction for them.
Letting the pants go allowed them to bring to Kl Rahul for half the price, as well as Starc and Faf Du Plesis.
Starc could give them the advantage with the ball they were missing last season, while they have one of the best rotary attacks on Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav and the first six looks seriously exciting. As long as the first one stays relatively capable and the axar is quickly set as captain, they will be a threat to anyone.
Who will hit the more sixty?
Heinrich Klassi (Sunriers Hyderabad). Abhishek won this rating last year and as a step has a great chance to do so again as he will face many balls, but I love his teammate Classia to explode once again.
No ground is big enough for him when he takes his eyes. As long as he takes enough time in the wrinkle, some balls will be lost!
Is this MS Dhoni last year?
Hope no! It is so difficult to show with Dhoni as he is the master in holding his cards near his chest. These days he only enters for short cameos below the order that can help maintain his body for another season next year.
One thing is for sure – the pension will be made with its conditions. In the true style Dhoni will have little fanaticism and we will surely hear about him after he has played his last match.
Who will win?
Given that I went to the Indians Mumbai last year I can’t be the best person to ask!
I think Mumbai will be much stronger this year (even without Jasprit Bumrah for the first matches) but after they burned me in 2024 I can’t go with them again.
Gujarat bought well at auction and watched there be a strong football game attack and the first three. If pushed, anyway I will go with Sun To go a better than last year and raise the trophy.
The Bowling attack has been rebuilt and the tightening has a similar scary view last season. If they come to the end, then this will be the last time I try to predict the winner!
