Jack Draper greeted a “future age” show after he firmly attacked the victory in the BNP Paribas Open final in Indian Wells.
The British No. 1 enabled the past Holger Rune in straight groups, 6-2 6-2, in just 68 minutes to provide a title of ATP Masters 1000 girls.
Draper made a quick start, breaking Rune in the opening match, then doing this again in his next attempt on the way to take the first set in half an hour. He was then a split in the first opportunity again in set two as he grew up in victory.
“I didn’t expect it at the beginning of the week,” Draper said Heavenly. “I had a difficult start for the year with an injury, so being in this position is now beyond words.
“I talk to my coach a lot about these later rounds in the tournament. I’ve lost matches in the past because I went passive and didn’t get them to the opponent and played with my conditions and played to win.
“To play as I did from the first ball. To ask for my foreword, to serve well, is a good, future age for my game.”
With the victory set to raise draper on a seventh high career in the world ranking on Monday, he added: “I feel like I deserve it all honestly.
“The amount of misfortune I have passed, the amount of sacrifices, the amount of time that all the people around me have put in me and the hard work.
“Next to an emotional feeling of knowing how much you have passed and inserted and being here now, to say I will go to seven in the world, I cannot tell you how much that means to me.”
Draper continued: “I want to be a top player, I want to continue to improve, but I’m a lot of work and see what comes because my dream is doing what I’m doing.
“To play in the big stages against the best players in the world, to have the opportunities I have. Winning these big tournaments is an added bonus.”
‘One day draper will remember forever’
The twice finalist of Indian Wells, Tim Henman, said Draper had given a “statement” win that will live long in the memory of the British player.
“Absolutely excellent performance,” Henman said Tennis. “It is building, not only on this tour, but during weeks, months and in recent years.
“Been good to see Jack come out and deliver occasionally to the tour where he didn’t have the easiest draw.
“He absolutely removed Rune only 6-2 6-2 to win his first title of masters, this is a day that will remember him forever.”
Henman added: “Seeing the unfolding of the match was a lot of one -sided traffic. The second set would be closer, we knew there would be a reaction, but Jack treated his emotions, play plan and strategy so well.
“When he did not have any of the physical issues, he was then able to execute his game plan. To beat someone like Rune in straight groups is a great statement.”
