Joe Gallagher, one of the best boxing coach in the country, is diagnosed with the fourth phase of the intestine and liver cancer.
The 56-year-old discovered it in November and is undergoing treatment of chemotherapy.
Gallagher has been a steady impact on British boxing for many years, training a list of champions which, as well as Natasha Jonas, has included Scott Quigg, Anthony Crolla, The Smith Brothers, Matthew Macklin etc.
Speaking of his diagnosis, Gallagher said: “It’s been a lot to get during the last months. I just wanted to continue as normal as possible as I tried to process things
“I would like to say no matter how busy life gets, your health should always come first. We can bypass things and remove things because we are always so busy” but in After all there is nothing more important than your health. “I know that I have to prioritize my health at this time, but boxing is giving me the little escape I need now. As I go through my battle, being around an extraordinary team is helping me to continue to do what I love, ”said Gallagher.
“I’ve just started my return against this disease. There is still so much that I’m processing, which is very difficult to talk now; it is also a very difficult time for my family and friends.”
