Kate Cross has hinted at cultural issues within women’s cricket in England and announced work will be sought to help win fans, following their Whitewash against Australia.
England became The first side that will whitewash 16-0 since the multi-fork series was created in 2013, The loss of all three internationals and each of the three T20Is before being thrown once and 122 runs on the one-tasting test.
Cross – a member of the unused team in the tournament because of the damage – believes the loss was worse than anticipated, admitting that the team did not impress at any time during the many -format.
“It was unprecedented how poorly we performed there,” Cross told reporters on Thursday. “I don’t think anyone probably predicted that grace would come out as it happened, and there was no doubt there was a great disappointment that came with him.
“But I think as a group of players now we don’t know what will come from this compilation, but I think this motivates you to be a better set of players and a better version of yourself without sounding too cliché.
“We didn’t go there and played good crickets for any part of this tournament, so we cannot depart from the sayings we want to” inspire and entertain “(team mantra) when we are not doing our jobs, as we should have done.”
Clare Connor – the managing director of the women’s Cricket in England – previously said that there will be a “honest summary” on how to rebuild by their historical loss, with questions about the future of coach Jon Lewis and the leadership team.
“I believe as a team that we do a lot of things really well, but there are areas that we know we need to handle, from cricket views, from cultural terms,” Cross added.
“I don’t know what will come from this compilation, but I hope these are the things that will be addressed and this will pave the way for the next generation to want to play for England.
“I feel we may have lost some fans in the last two months, which is really sad from our point of view. We as crickets know how bad that tour was – we will not try to wear it. But I would like people to fall in love with English cricket.”
