Michael Van Gerwen has been constantly taking points in the Premier League but Luke Humphries wants to stop him when they meet the night seven in Cardiff.
Van Gerwen has won all, but one of the six quarterfinals in which he has competed so far, constantly raising at least two points to keep himself listed on the Premier League table.
The Dutch decreases to 10 points, five behind the world No. 1 per second, despite not receiving a night win at 2025.
With the ‘green car’ able to move either inside just a few points of humphries with a quarterfinal victory, or even go to the level with it to 15 points if he wins at Cardiff, Humphries know how important it is to stop Van Gerwen in his footsteps.
“If he beats me, he is within my three points and he has not done it in the final yet.
“He has won five of the six games of the first round and he must have won it against Rob Cross on Exeter.
“Michael has not played his best, but you have to look at the record he had in those first matches. He’s winning them every time.
“And obviously to me, I’m probably the one who stops it.
“As I said before the tournament started, those first round games are very important.
“Two points is massive because there is really only one person who can get out with a few points and that’s the winner.
“If people are getting three points in something like that, it’s not really very bad.”
If he beats Van Gerwen, Humphries believe that the cuffs will come out after having at least two quarter -finals completed, that is, when he begins to play his best arrows.
“After the quarterfinals, I think you rest. And I think that’s what happens to me. You release first and then that’s when I become my most dangerous,” Humphries added.
“I know that Michael will be ready for this because if he is lost, he can be out of the first four.
“For me, I just want to break away a little more and give myself a little more roads in the first four places.”
