Leeds Rhino’s star’s signature for 2025, Maika Sivo, has been excluded for the whole of the Super League season with an ACL injury.
Sivo chose damage during the pre-season friendship of Leeds against Wigan Warriors on Sunday, going to the first half of his 22-4 victory of his team.
Rhinos had signed the arm in a three-year agreement by NRL Parramatta Eels. The 31-year-old will now undergo surgery.
In a statement, Leeds Rhino’s coach Brad Arthur said: “Our first thoughts are with Maika and we will all overcome him and give him and his family our support.
“Our medical team will make sure he has the best possible treatment to get back from injury as soon as possible. Maika is a strong character and I’m sure he will throw himself into his healing to return to his good. “
Sports director Ian Blease added: “This is an extremely harsh blow for us as a club, but especially devastating for Maika who has adapted so well into our group.
“We were all excited to see what he could do at the Super League in 2025, but we will simply have to wait for that now. As far as our team is concerned, we will have to review the full situation and Let’s look at all our options.
“We have some prominent young players who can now get the opportunity to grab their opportunity, and I will discuss all our options with the club, Brad and training staff in the coming weeks before the season. “
