Striker Khadija Shaw may lose both legs of Manchester City’s Champions League quarterfinals against Chelsea due to a muscle injury, the temporary boss Nick Cushing on Tuesday revealed.
Shaw is finally excluded outside the first Wednesday match at Joie with Cushing Stadium also suggesting that the attacker is a doubt about the London return match next week.
City’s top scorer was injured in the loss to Chelsea in the Women’s League Cup on Saturday, while Japan International Aoba Fujino, who began and scored in that game, will also be missing.
“Two important players,” Cushing said. “But for us, these moments give the other players the opportunity.
“Both are muscle damage … The problem with these types of injuries, it will take a few days to diagnose even how much the problem is. I think they are significant.”
Driven in the chances of each player available for the second match on March 27, Cushing added: “When you have muscle injuries and you cannot diagnose the time frame, it will not be the one you can return quickly.”
The final of the League Cup was the first of the four matches between Chelsea and City in a wonderful 12-day space. As well as the quarterfinal of the two -legged Champions League, they meet at a WSL meeting on Sunday.
Kelly’s absence begins to feel
Sky Sports’ Anton Toloui:
“That is why Manchester City did not want to see Chloe Kelly leave in January.
“The winger of England would be similar replacement for the injured Fujino and her creativity, the experience and threat of purpose would ease the burden on the other in the absence of SHAW.
“The city is still blessed with talent, with Jess Park and Kerolin Nicoli available to exit the bench and Vivianne Miedema potentially by becoming no. 9.
“But Cushing, who described Wednesday’s game as” bigger “than Saturday’s Subway Cup final, knows that he needs as many offensive options as possible to break the best protection in Europe.
“Anyway in the world will lose a player as talented as Shaw. Cushing’s plan’s effectiveness will be useful for Man City’s success in this intriguing Champions League showdown.
Keira Walsh returns to Chelsea’s team after injury for the first Wednesday match in Manchester.
