Harry Maguire scored a injury time winner against the former Leicester club while Manchester United’s holders came from behind to win 2-1 and progressed in the fifth round of FA Cup.
It seems that the defender was in an offside position while Bruno Fernandes clashed with free kick he headed beyond Mads Hermansen, but without any action at this stage of the competition, the goal was given.
“We didn’t beat in the time of Fergie, we have been defeated in the time of offside,” said Leicester Ruud Van Nistelrooy manager Itv After the last whistle.
United, who has reached the last two finals, progressed in the fourth round for the 10th time in 11 seasons.
There was hope within Old Trafford who, against a team with eight Premier League losses in their last nine games, United would not fight as they had done so often on household lands recently.
It didn’t take long for this to evaporate, though. First the volume of the crowd calmed down, then the groans came when the ball was played behind, and the disappointment of the lack of intensity and creativity. The hosts had no car, played with the rhythm on the legs occasionally and looked without ideas.
Leicester fully used it just before the break. Bilal el khannouss allowed time and space to overcome Leny Yoro and pull the ball back to Wilfred Ndidi not marked, whose hit was saved by Andre Onana, just for the ball to ricochet outside Bobby de Cordova-Reid and over line.
By talking further Itv in half time, Heavenly‘Roy Keane did not attract punches with his appreciation for the host screen.
“It’s shocking. Indeed, really poor,” he said. “No target strokes. They had two targeted against Crystal Palace. They are actually now boring.”
Patrick Dorgu – alive in his debut – was replaced by Alejandro Garnacho in half the time after Ruben Amorim watched to inject fresh life into his team but was more than an hour before posting their first shot the target of the night.
When it came, only a tremendous cleaning of the last gap from Caleb Okoli – who hit the bar before it was fixed – stopped Garnacho’s shot from crossing the line.
United’s moment continued to grow, however, and they restored equality within three minutes. Garnacho’s cross found Rasmus Hoylund, whose connection was blocked by Wout Faes. But the ball fell perfectly for Zirczee, who went on his first goal since December 19th in the empty net.
From there, it seemed as if the extra time was more likely than both sides to find a winner.
But in the last seconds of the second half stop time, Maguire was associated with the wonderful distribution of Fernandes to get United from prison.
Amorim: good result, not a good performance
Manchester United head Ruben amorim By talking further Itv:
“We have to believe it to the end, but this time it has nothing to do with Fergie’s time.
“I think the performance … we have to do much better with the ball, without the ball. We didn’t have energy at first, especially in the first part.
“Then in the second half, we played a little better, with a little more speed, winning second balls and then managed to get things back.
“It was a good result, not a good performance.
“I can’t just focus on keeping the season or momentum with a cup. It’s not the way I see football, it’s not the way I see Manchester United.
“I’m not thinking about the end of the season because the final is at the end of the season. I don’t care that, I care the moment and the moment is not that good.
“A good result. We move forward in the next stage. We have a week to prepare, but today it was not a good day.”
Van nistelrooy: Offside decision hard to swallow
Leicester manager Ruud van nistelrooy Talking to talk Itv:
“We didn’t beat in the time of Fergie, we have been defeated in the time of offside.
“HAP you have a few inches, a couple of inches. That was half a meter, clear in line. This is a difficult to take because the team deserved extra time.
“It was a very good performance of the team. Started really well, pressing United. In the ball, very stable. Merited to go 1-0 up in half the time.
“We knew there would be a pressure on us in the second half and chances, but not so much.
“Decisions like this, at our level, are difficult to swallow.”
