Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe says it was a mistake not to leave Erik Ten Hag during the summer-but has praised the current “excellent work” Ruben Amorim.
Ten HAG was awarded an extended contract at Old Trafford after United Beat Man City in the FA Cup final, but then nine games were fired.
Talking to talk Sports Sky ‘ Gary Neville, Ratcliffe says his newlywed leadership team of executive chief Omar Berrada, Sports Director Sir Dave Brailsford and club technical director Jason Wilcox failed to reach the right conclusion in Ten Hag.
Man Utd is now the 14th in the Premier League table, 36 points behind Liverpool, who are set to match the UNIDE record of 20 league titles.
However, Ratcliffe says he can see signs of progress under amoring, despite the Portuguese who won only five of his 17 Premier League games at the top.
“It was too early for us to make a big decision in reality,” Ratcliffe said when explaining their decision -making during the summer.
“We hadn’t been together as a team for a long time. It was just a matter of weeks and it’s a big decision, and not?
“Of course the surrounding structure (amorim) is now completely different. There is a truly strong relationship and a really strong support culture for ruben. Jason and Ruben speak to each other two or three times a day, Omar speaks with Ruben every day, whenever I go to the game I talk to Ruben.
“But it was quite difficult to see in which environment was working erik. Was it, in other words, it was an erratic performance a function of Erik, or was it a function of the organization?
Asked by Neville if he is sorry for now, Ratcliffe said: “Yes, it was the wrong decision. We made the wrong decision. It was a mistake. So, yes, I think in the sense that I repent.
“I think there were some abolition or mitigating circumstances to make that decision, but at the end of the day it was the wrong decision, so my hands up, of course for it.”
Ratcliffe: Amorim has done a great job in circumstances
While United Lighish in the lower half of the Premier League table they have a blow to make the Europa League quarter-finals, with the second match of their last tie with 16 with Real Sociedad standing 1-1-which will be played Thursday at Old Trafford.
The Europa League profit would not only win its first part of silver at the helm of United, but would also qualify the Champions League football club next season and the financial growth it competes in that competition.
Speaking the day after Man Utd 1-1 draw at home for Arsenal in Premier League, Ratcliffe supported the work of amoring so far.
“I think Ruben has done a great job,” Ratcliffe said.
“I really like Ruben. I think in circumstances … I mean he reached the middle of the season, he had no time to train his players in the way he wants to play, he inherited a team which he has had no influence, and the team is not necessarily designed for the way he plays football, and he has never played in the liga the largest club in the world, and is a harsh place, and is a harsh place, and is a place, and is a place,
“If you consider it all this, I think he has done an extremely good job.”
Amorim working with the team on the Everton -like wage bill, given the injuries
When asked by Neville what parts of the work refers, Ratcliffe said: “I think what he has come out of the players he has available, I think he did well with him.
“If I look at the team’s salary bill available to it, that wage bill is not the Manchester City or Liverpool salary bill is a part of it.
“If you look at the salary bill of the playyers that are available to the him that are not injured, or not out on loan, becuse we’ve got, you know, we’w antony on loan, we’ve got (jadon) sancho out on loan, we’ve (Marcus) rashford, we’ve got mason mount who hasn’t really played in the last two seasons, we’ve got luve shaw who hasn’t played in the last two seasons.
“So if you modify our salary bill for players who are not available for Ruben, then our wage bill lists us, you know, turning on, the second half of the table. We are a level with the like with a Forest or Everton, not a Manchester City.
“That salary bill, if you look at that salary bill, is probably about 130 million, and we’re talking about Liverpool who has a salary bill of £ 200m, Manchester City have received a 300m salary bill, so this is the team playing Ruben.
