Aston Villa Unai Emery boss awaits the “big challenge” of the return of Marcus Rashford to its maximum.
The 27-year-old has joined Villa with Manchester United by the end of the season, with the possibility of a permanent transfer during the summer.
Rashford left his boyhood club after being raised under the new chief Ruben Amorim, with his shows that had stalled over the past two years.
He is in the frame to make his debut against Tottenham in the fourth round of FA Cup.
‘Rashford’s challenge is exciting’
“I’m very happy with the window we made, I’m very happy with her,” Emery said. “The conversation I had with him was a very normal conversation with a player and coach, talking about football.
“I only love the best football from him. As a person also in the dressing room as another player who helps us.
“I think his potential is the great potential to exploit. I don’t want to know the reason he is leaving Manchester, but I’m very happy keeping him here.
“I am very happy to try to use and help him recover his performances, individually and collectively. My challenge with him is great. His challenge with us is exciting.”
Amorim has publicly asked Rashford’s performances in training, saying Thursday that he “couldn’t get Marcus to see the way you have to play football and train the way I see it”.
Emery was not prepared to look too far in the future if Rashford’s long -term future were in Villa Park.
“Today he trained fantastic, tomorrow again, Sunday match,” he said on Friday. “We will enjoy every step and then the future is building only with the present.
“If we try to get the future before building the present is impossible, if we do it, we will fall.”
Watkins to Miss Spurs Clash
Villa will be without Ollie Watkins for Tottenham’s visit after he wounded his groin in losing last week in Wolves.
However, Emery hopes he will be available next week.
“For him every day it is important how he is feeling,” the Spaniard said on Friday.
“For Sunday, he will not be available because today he was not trained and tomorrow he will not be trained as he must recover in hope for next week he will be available.”
Tyrone Mings defenders, Pau Torres and Matty Cash will also lose against spurs, along with midfielder Ross Barkley.
