Justin Rose plans to attract the latest experiences to oppose the diplomas as he follows a victory over the masters who will feel “a gift” at this stage of his career.
Rose, 44, marked his 20th depiction of masters following a 65-year-old round with one under 71 in his second round in Augusta National, mixing four birds with three bogeys to set the club’s target on eight below.
Former World No. 1 has previously completed the race twice in the master, claiming second to Jordan Spieth in 2015 and losing Sergio Garcia in a Play-off in 2017.
Rose is the only player who has led or shared the superiority after every round of masters without winning, with the English firmly in the quarrel to look for a second big and first title in 12 years after his success of Open Open 2013.
“I think I’ll take it at all times,” Rose said about the potentially win of a green jacket. “Beggars can’t be choices, you know. But I would take it now for sure. Sometimes if it happens too early in your career, you have a lot to live.
“I think if this happens now, I will enjoy. I think, maybe much more, coming up a little more as a gift to the end of your career. So I think there would be much more fun in it for sure.
“I feel like there was another kind of great achievements at the time. I think that winning the Olympic Gold Medal (in 2016) gave me a lot of pleasure in that temporary period, reaching one world, winning FedExcup.
“I think that really great historical moments in my career have happened in those 12 years, which drives you away from the fact that you haven’t gained a major in that time. Yes, 12 years slips very quickly. But I haven’t been stopping at that fact.”
Rose objected to the PGA Championship last season before finishing Xander Schauffle’s race in Open later that summer after having passed the final qualification to secure his place, with the 44-year-old using both results to raise his confidence before this weekend.
“Sometimes you just have to knock on the door,” Rose added. “I don’t think I can do anything different for both those cases.
“Especially Valhalla, I actually made a quarrel there, which is great. He got increasingly comfortable as I became further and further at the head of the manager, who was really good for me to know because he had not had a ton of the previous two years.
“Open championship, much the same, given how you dream of winning them, I felt extremely comfortable in those situations. That’s what I learned from those two things.
“To make it happen this weekend, what is it? Like if it were a secret recipe (to win), you’ll know so far, but it’s just about the game of excellent golf. I think the driver’s table is gathering very favorable to what looks like world class players up there.”
