Justin Rose caught the early lead after the first round of masters, as Rory Mcilroy saw that his Grand Slam hopes to undergo a major obstacle after a nightmare in Augusta National.
Rose accused the leader of the eight-bird leader in an stunning 65-nine seven, with his only fallen blow coming to the last hole, giving the former world a three-shot advantage to Scottie Scheffer, Ludwig åberg and Corey Conners.
Scheffler opened the protection of his title with a 68 without Bogey and Conners occupied three of the last four holes to reach four under the last year, with the last year åberg making it a three-part tie for the second after a final bird.
Mcilroy – looking for a great first victory since 2014 – was in the same result as four holes left by its opening round, just to charge two double bogs in a three -hole stretch – at 15 and 17 – to stutter at a level of 72.
World No. 2 is seven blows back and off the top 25, the seventh year in a row he was six or more after the opening day, with the northern Irish now faces an uphill battle to seek the victory required to complete the Grand Slam career.
Rose runs while mcilroy quickly digs fast start
Rose made the dream of starting three in a row and produced a similar run by the eighth party to pull the field clearly, with the English then stopping from 10 meters to take advantage of the 15th.
The double runner of the masters temporarily went four clear after falling into a long-range bird in the 16th, with the lonely Bogey of Rose coming when a sharp tee shot in the last forefront saw that he had to get out of the trees.
Rose becomes the first player in the history of the Masters to have numerous rounds of 65 or lower opening, while it is the fifth time he has held the lead or co -lead after the opening day in Augusta National – more than any other player.
Scheffler-making offers to become the first winner back in masters since Tiger Woods-benefited from par-pencil before draining a gorgeous 60-foot bird in the first fourth.
A brilliant pitch in the eight-eighth raised a 12-legged bird that saw it reach the turn at 33, the same as the day of the opening of its title in 2023, with Scheffler ending a pars and moving in four with another long-range bird in principle 16.
US Open Bryson Dechambeau and his friend Liv League Tyrrell Hatton divide the fifth place in three under, while Akshay Bhatia – who played along with Mcilroy – sits a further blow with Harris English, Jason Day and Aaron Rai of England.
Mcilroy reached the turn in three under – its best start in Augusta National since 2011 – and benefited from the 13th PARE to get within three roses, just to start its bullet down the managers with a double in 15 in 15.
The 35-year-old had gone too long from the green to two before throwing the slope into the water, letting him go to the fall area, before falling back, when he collected a double bog of three-sided in the 17th.
Mcilroy’s closing party means that he has now posted a round of opening sub-70 only twice in 17 appearances in Augusta National, with 18 of the last 19 champions of masters who are within four of the lead after the first round.
Collin Morikawa also marked a level of 72, with world No. 3 Xander Schauffle and Tommy Fleetwood of England among Group A in further blow, while Nick Dunlap wrapped the leader with a 90 first round.
Rose and Scheffler encouraged from the beginnings
Justin Rose, talking about Sky Sports: “I went there with the mentality to try and be really clear, really patient, and I just ended up getting into a flying!
“I got up and running, so from that moment I felt like I was on the front leg and playing the golf course well. I began to develop a lot of confidence and felt like there was a good round in me. I just became unclear at 18, but for the most part that was a great day.”
Scottie Scheffler: “I think at any time you approach you, it will be easier for you to win the golf tournament. This is a simple fact of the matter. You get down to a good start, statistically you will have a better chance to win the tournament.
“I think about the main championship courses is funny because this is a golf course where there are many options. There are many opportunities over the weekend. There are many opportunities on Sunday with where they put the pins.
