Aldrich Potgieter showed his ability to shoot low in Open Mexico, empowering and making his way to a 61st Nine 61 who gave South Africa hit with a four-shot club with Aaron Rai Five Shots back of England.
Potgieter scored to see after a sweatshirt shot in the water in the 10th hole. He failed to bird two of the shorter five-five in the nine rear, but still had an external chance in another sub-60 round after shooting 59 on the Korn Ferry tour a year ago.
These hopes ended with a shot in the bunker in the 18th hole of the 18th, and a short approach to another bunker. The ball stood by the lip, making it difficult for him to bring the 20-Oborre bunker to bring him closer. The one with two strokes from 25 meters for par.
Potgieter still linked the record record with his 61 and is on 16th Nine 126, four shots in front of Stephan Jaeger of Germany (64).
It was an excellent show from 20-year-old Potgieter, who won the 2022 amateur championship at the Royal Lytham and St Annes at the age of 17 and last year became the youngest player (19) to win the Korn Ferry tournament.
“I love the golf course. It definitely fits my game, I think, in many respects,” Potgieter said. “If I can continue to do well, I think it should be very well.”
Although his power and the ball hit stand, his layer is what led to 61, with Potgieter Holing seven strokes from 10 feet or longer. This does not include the 10th, where his goal found the water, it turned out a little less than the green and entered 20 meters for money.
He reached the 12th hole of 661-Oborri in two by hitting the driver from the right road to just over 20 meters, while seven of his discs went 325 yards or longer.
