George Russell has held his third place in Grand Prix to Miami after a protest behind the race filed by Red Bull against the Mercedes driver was rejected.
Russell ended up a place in front of Max Verstappen on the last bed of the podium on Sunday, but Red Bull launched a protest against the Mercedes driver for the stewards afterwards, claiming that Briton had failed to slow down enough for a single wave with a single wave during the race.
Stewards heard representatives from both teams at a hearing in the afternoon, but ultimately rejected the Red Bull case.
Verstappen completed 2.3s after Russell – who had danced the Dutch by throwing under a previous virtual security machine – so any time sentence for the Mercedes driver could have submitted the world champion in third place in the fourth place.
At the hearing, Red Bull claimed that “while (Russell) raised the drowning when the yellow flag appeared, he did not reduce the speed” and thus argued that the Mercedes car had not respected the regulations.
However, Mercedes representatives said that “the usual practice accepted by all teams and FIA was and is still that the significant increase in drowning in a yellow area of the flag is considered a suitable reaction and therefore they were in accordance with the relevant regulations.”
They said Russell had properly “significantly” removed from drowning after seeing Gabriel Bartoto’s trapped Sauber car on the dirty side.
Stewards threw the Red Bull issue – that is, the team also lost their protest deposit.
At their conclusions, Stewards said: “It was visible from the on -board footage, as well as the telemetry that the 63 (Russell) car raised the drowning when it crossed the yellow flag area.
“The drowning rose to about 25 percent and this resulted in a torque landing of about 30 percent.
“Article 26.1. A) requires the driver to have” visible speed reduced “in a yellow area of the flag, but does not specify whether this means reducing absolute velocity or decreasing the speed with respect to regular racing speed in the respective dirty part.
“The speed of the car 63 in the yellow flag area was significantly lower than the regular speed of the races, but the absolute speed as it passed through the yellow flag area increased slightly.
“Directors stipulate that the requirement of Article 26.1 a) In relation to lowering the speed in a yellow area of the flag can only be linked to a decrease compared to the regular speed of the races, as the decrease in absolute speed may, depending on the dirty part in which the yellow flag appears, represents a compliance or a non -compliance with the regulations and the regulations. Respect ..
“For example, in a braking area absolute speed can be reduced without necessarily being respected by regulations.”
The decision means that Russell holds his fourth conclusion on the podium in six races this season and leaves Miami only six points back in third -place Verstappen in the Driver Championship.
Mercedes in second place are 36 pure Red Bull points in the Constructor Championship, though now 105 behind the fugitive leaders McLaren after the dominant end of the one-two Woking team.
