Ben Whittaker has made changes before his match with Liam Cameron.
After a tremendous decline, this saw both fighters falling from the ring, their first war ended in a controversial technical drawing.
They will recover Sunday in Birmingham, Live in Heavenlyand Whittaker will have a new coach in his corner.
Former WBO middle-weight world champion and well-valued professional coach Andy Lee is now working with the Olympic Silver Medal.
“I just saw a fighter who is extremely talented, who needs guidance, structure,” Lee said Heavenly. “After all personality is a very humble, honest, determined young man.
“A talent like Ben needs mentoring. She needs sewage. He needs leadership and that is why I thought it would be a greeting to see a fighter such as this to lose or not reach his potential because of the lack of proper training.”
It will be an intensely pressure case, heading to BP Live Arena Pulse in a high match, especially for a first war in a new coaching partnership.
“Faith and relationships build over time. We don’t have that luxury of time,” Lee said. “But many conversations take place during the training camp.
“You have to communicate. To know what makes them score and how they think.”
He added Whittaker: “I don’t see any ceiling how good he is. I think he is potentially a world champion. I don’t want to go to the top, but from what I’m looking at in the gym, so attractive to see, such a pleasure to see and he can do much he wants in the sport.
“But you have to go through the steps and win it. It’s not just given because you are gifted. You have to work for it and win it.”
Whittaker, early in his professional career, had previously tended to make titles with his often spectacular appearance.
Although he was heavily criticized after a draw with Cameron. “At the very nature of the world we live in today,” said Lee, “but it is a good lesson for him because he has had those extraordinary levels of viral going with all the clips of the show and now he has had the opposite with criticism from every corner of the world.
“Probably perhaps a great lesson for him as a warrior, but also as a human being to get everything with a pinch of salt, high and low levels, praise and criticism.
“One day you are the hero and the next day you are Zuzar.”
It is an indispensable fight for Whittaker. But by entering Cameron’s match, Lee believes his reputation is in danger.
“We are both in it together anyway. My reputation and his reputation are both in line. We are both working hard to win,” he said.
“I will put them all in line for Benin. I support it all the way.”
Why Lee?
It was Andy Lee who originally reached Whittaker after watching the first war with Cameron.
“I always wanted a change. I knew it would come,” Whittaker said Heavenly. “I would always change, but it was only when.”
Lee’s appeal as his coach was clear to Whittaker. “He’s a person I have always watched in boxing. He has done what I want to achieve, he is a world champion,” he said.
“He has produced the champions himself. He is the champion himself.”
Whittaker has moved his training camp to Dublin to work with Lee.
“You cut the distractions and it’s just to have fun and work while doing it,” he said.
“I’m loving every minute of it. I’m learning and we’re a good combination.”
