Paul Merson says Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final is a big problem for Eddie Howe while preparing for a game “has to win” against the top rivals of Nottingham Forest.
In their first match since booking their country to face Liverpool, Newcastle was blown up by Man City who provided a marked 4-0 victory in Etihad Stadium. Their form has plunged in the last month with three losses in the last four matches of the League, and Howe has announced that their season would end if they focused only on the Carabao Cup final.
“If (having an eye on the final) is the case, we are in trouble,” Howe said. “Because our Premier League season will really end at the time when the final comes, it can’t be the focus.”
Newcastle Face Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and West Ham United in the Premier League, as well as Brighton & Hove Albion in the fifth round of the FA Cup in front of the Carabao Cup final, but Merson says it is only natural for the attention of players who can be done Newcastle legends by raising a trophy to leave on Wembley.
Prior to the Sunday’s Sunday appearance between Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, Live in Sky Sports, Merson discusses the final problem of the Newcastle Carabao Cup, the Forest’s impressive season and why Sunday’s game is indispensable for Toon and should not miss for Nuno Espirito Santo Ana.
Forest’s great opportunity in Newcastle
It is a massive option for Nottingham Forest this weekend in Newcastle. They can open a nine -point gap in Newcastle with a win.
It is a chance to set a true daily light between them and the side of Eddie Howe.
It is an indispensable game for Newcastle but is a must -nottingham Forest.
If Forest could leave St. James’ Park with a point, they would be more than happy.
Their target from now to the end of the season should be to win at home and then stop the teams inside and around them.
That is why the game against Newcastle is massive. Of course, they can win the game and move further clearly, but the absolute minimum is to leave with a point to keep Newcastle in the length of the arm.
MERSE impressed by the ‘elastic’ forest
I am shocked by the way Nottingham Forest has done this season.
What impressed me more than everything was when they were beaten, they have healed quickly. They have been so resilient in this regard.
I saw them beating well in Man City and Arsenal, and even when they were massacred by Bournemouth, the way they retired to their next games was what impressed me more than everything.
At the Premier League you can get to these runs where one loss turns into another, and before you know that you have lost five on the trot on a eye.
This is where Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been so impressive. They have won the games immediately after a loss, essentially stopping rot before decay.
‘CARABAO Final Cup Final a big problem for Howe’
The big problem Eddie Howe has at the moment is the Carabao Cup final.
They were blown up by Manchester City last weekend. They make the city look like Harlem Globetrotters.
They are reaching a scene, if they are not there already, the players will look for in the final. It is not disregard for the club or something like that, but these players have the opportunity to represent Newcastle in a Cup final in Wembley.
They have a chance to make history for this football club.
It is only natural for a player to have him in the back of their minds.
Newcastle does not win the cup races every other year. They have not earned anything since I was born.
If they went and won this competition for Newcastle, the players would be legends. This is something from which they will not be able to leave and it can cause a big headache in all games before this trip to Wembley.
