Oleksandr Ustyk has two clashes left as a unified champion, but does Daniel Dubois fit in his plans and can we see a sudden heavyweight match?
Ustyk had a place of the front row reserved in Saudi Arabia, but posters for another unquestionable announcement of the world title war probably extended to a backstory powder after a stunning 48 hours in the high Boxing Division.
It didn’t have to happen.
Ustyk was expected to try to retire on the ring platform to confirm another period for all the main belts, but Dubois, his former opponent, was nowhere near the arena after suddenly getting sick with a virus on Thursday.
Martin Bakole, a contender Gargani from the Democratic Republic of Congo, had quickly accepted an offer to challenge Dubois’s intended opponent, Joseph Parker. But Bakole’s 310lb frame was betrayed by his feet extinguished after a right hand from Parker sent him to spread to the second round Saturday night.
So what else and who else?
Tyson Fury’s latest announcement has left Joshua in Limbo, while Ulyk has confirmed that he wants only two other fights.
Promoter Frank Warren searched for positive as Dubois lay on a sick bed.
“I feel the perverse thing from this is that we’ve got more an option now,” Warren said.
“I would like to see the match with Ustyk. This is an option. If it can be done I would love it.
“But then we have Joe Parker, we have Aj, who has taken his damage and he may want to do it now with the fact (Dubois) has been sick, who knows?”
Dubois has history with usyk. Back in August 2023, the British fighter suspected the Ukrainian with a handful that addressed a low blow, despite his closeness to the belt line, and Ulyk was given time to regain his feet and force a stop.
Dubis still holds his IBF belt and could go straight to an indisputable war for world title against Ulyks, WBC, IBF and WBO Champion.
Joshua was sitting in the vicinity of Usyk and would also be disappointed by the absence of Dubois, who had knocked him on Wembley in September.
Revenge plans for Joshua remain unclear as he is currently absent from IBF’s ranking. Deontay Wilder, another rumored opponent, was not Saudi rings and was not seen inside a ring since a loss to Zhilei Zhang last June.
Joshua was also linked to Bakole after the duo shared an icy face at a London event. But Bakole will hope that a last IBF eliminator against Efe Ajagba can still move forward as he dared to be great against Parker.
Agit Kabayel has already positioned himself for a WBC title shot after a stunning Zhang stop, but it can be done to wait a little longer as the governing body has no instant mandatory title commitments.
Parker, after dropping Bakole after wins over Zhang and Deontay Wilder, is probably more deserved for another world title against Dubois or even Usyk.
In his post -match interview, Parker raised a relevant question. “How can I fight for the other world title?
“If Ustyk wants a dance partner. I want to fight for a world title, I want to be the world champion again.”
But Sky Sports expert Johnny Nelson has asked if Parker can resume his rivalry with an ex -opponent.
Nelson said: “You know what I think will happen. I think Aj will find an opponent and he will not come back with Daniel Dubois.
“Don’t be surprised if this happens again, Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker.”
After another week whirlpool in the heavyweight division, Usyk, Dubois, Parker and Joshua could all appear on reborn reborn tables in the near future.
