Lyon’s boss, Paulo Fonseca, has been suspended for nine months by the French Professional Football League (FLP) following his violent confrontation with a judge.
The phonese was seen leaving and shouting in front of Benoit Milot as the judge sent the manager during the 2-1 Ligue 1 victory over Brest on Sunday.
FLP said in a statement on Wednesday that the FONSECA will be banned from the touch line by November 30, while he is not allowed to be in the dressing room with the players of Lyon before and after an official game until September 15.
The clash left the official scared. In an interview with TeamMilot said: “He jumped towards me with an intimidating attitude and I decided to send it directly. He continued to be commemorated out of control.
“He had an even more intense attitude, trying to give a blow, in fact. A head of the head. I didn’t even have time to announce the final decision, which turned out to not give him a penalty. It seemed to be a small contact of the nose to be correct.”
Penalty does not affect European competitions with Lyon due to confrontation with Steaua Bucharest in the last 16th Europa League on Thursday night, but the ban can extend to continental races if France football authorities refer to the issue in UEFA and FIFA.
The FONSECA has been Lyon’s manager since January 31st after he was fired from AC Milan a month ago. He was given the ban on the same day as his 52nd birthday.
Explaining the nine -month ban, Sebastien Deneux, president of the Disciplinary Committee, said: “Mr. Fonseca is a coach of Ligue 1. He is above all a teacher. It means that this attitude is strictly incompatible with these functions.
“The Committee revealed that Mr. Fonseca’s stance, throwing himself towards the judge, shouting at him, to the point that they found himself head to head, is a characteristic attitude for intimidating and threatening behavior.”
The phonese apologized for his behavior.
