Rory Mcilroy overcame a six-stroke deficit and cruel weather to adult in the Pebble Beach pro-am title.
Mcilroy made a fiery start to his third round with four birds in nine in front, before winning 15, 16 and five -pens, left him seven under the day and -15 for the week.
Shane Lowry (-15) matched Mcilroy’s 65 on Saturday, with an eagle in the second, placing the tone as he made his way to the manager’s table.
“I felt as if the weather was lighting six for us,” Mcilroy said. “I said Harry (Diamond) literally, let’s try and tear the ball today. I feel like I didn’t really make a complete pace after that.
“It really became strangely at seven, eight, nine, 10 for us, so we could play those holes even in it was great. Then it began to be resolved and was a little more sheltered in that nine .
“It was good to get some birds along the way.”
The leader of the round two sepp Straka (-16) saved his third round with four birds in his last five holes to hold a lead with a blow going to the last day.
Justin Rose (-14) enjoyed another strong round of four under 68 years old, placing him a shot after Mcilroy and Lowry to set a last round of block.
Scottie Scheffler ended 10 under a third round 69 while continuing his return after a hand injury received during cooking last month.
