Rangers have dismissed manager Philippe Clement after 16 months at the top.
Follows a loss at home For St Mirren in the Scottish Prime Minister who leaves the club 13 points behind Celtic leaders with 11 games to go.
This result came just weeks after Rangers’ hopes of winning local jewelery this season were all, but ended after a 1-0 Scottish home loss at home to the Queen Rivale Park team.
However, Clement leaves with Rangers up to the last 16 of the Europa League.
“The Rangers football club can confirm that tonight has shared the company with the manager of the first men’s team, Philippe Clement,” the club said in a statement Sunday at night.
“The club would like to mark their sincere thanks to Philippe for his tireless work and dedication during his magic at the top. A further update from the club will follow in the right time.”
The decision to dismiss the Belgian comes about seven months after giving the 50-year-old a new one-year contract extension-just weeks after the club appointed the new Clement assistant Issame Charai.
Speaking earlier on Sunday before Rangers made the decision to remove Clement, Heavenly Pundit Kris Boyd said: “Find a temporary, place it on top between now and the end of the season. He has to go now.
“We are used to him with excuses, he just looked defeated on Saturday, you just feel like it’s time. I have to be done now – I’ve said this for months. That has been declining for months.
“You just need to look at the players, who have to keep some of the responsibility, but there is no play style.
“There is no structure for nothing they do and that’s from top to bottom.”
Supported in January, fired in February
Last month, the chief executive of the Rangers Patrick Stewart supported Clement, despite the increasing pressure from the supporters.
Former Manchester United chief – who took on his role in Ibrox’s Board Hall in December – admitted that it would have been the “easy decision” to remove the Belgians after disappointment from the fans.
He insisted that his time at Old Trafford proved that constant managerial change is not effective, but warned that Clement’s results should be improved without any “cast iron guarantees” offered.
Stewart supported Clement again a week after losing the queen’s park, but with results that did not improve enough, the Clement is rejected.
The Rangers are seven weeks in a “root summary and branches of the entire football department” which is being run by external experts. Meanwhile, the board is also in talks with San Francisco 49ers for a multi -millionth of the club.
In addition to dealing with out -of -field issues, Stewart should now lead the rangers’ search for their fifth permanent boss since November 2021.
What went wrong about Clement?
When the former -Genk, Club Brugge and Monaco Boss took over in Ibrox in October 2023, Rangers found himself seven adrift points to Celtic after a poor start of the season under Michael Beale.
However, its impact was immediate. Invincible runs lasting 16 games then 14 matches – separated only by a loss to Celtic – without the level of attraction of the rangers on top of the table after playing a less game.
Clement had also provided the trophy of the League Cup for the first time since 2011, reached the Semis the Scottish Cup and the last 16 Europa League.
However, things then took a turn and, in fact, the rangers never really recovered.
A 3-2 loss in the County Ross followed by a draw in duundee days later without momentum in favor of Celtic. Rangers lost only two more matches last season, but they were both against Brendan Rodgers squad who sealed the title of the League and the Scottish Cup.
Summer had to do with the Rangers “Big Recuild” while the club seemed to reduce salaries, reduce the average age of the team and add key players to help challenge Celtic this season.
Working with the now technical director Nils Koppen, 11 players were signed and 16 left-including high profile stars like Connor Goldson, Ryan Jack, Born Barisic and John Lundstram.
Clement said his task was much larger than the “little renovation” he faces Celtic – but he knew the fans were still expecting results. However, unlike his first months at work, Rangers did not produce them sufficiently sufficiently.
An immeasurable draw in their opening of the Scottish Prime Minister in the heart was a sign of the things that would come, while the loss to Dynamo Kyive ended their hopes of the Champions League.
Clement of Clement would go to throw 32 prime minister points from 48 on the street while they were lost in Celtic Park, Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.
Another loss to Celtic in the League Cup final, plus more points removed from St Mirren, Motherwell, Hibernian and Dundee saw the 2024 bottom at a low.
There were some signs of promise along the way, including an old firm’s first victory for Clement, a draw against the spurs and progress in the last 16 Europa League.
Clement said he would not give up after that 1-0 friend’s loss to the Queen’s Park Club Park in the Scottish Cup. However, after a few months of pressure, the decision was made from his hands while the Rangers parted with the company with another manager.
Who can replace Clement?
It is a movie that Rangers fans have seen very often in recent years as the search for a new manager begins.
If the previous four times are anything to pass, there will be many names related. The truth to say that speculation began months ago.
Steven Gerrard – who brought the Rangers to their latest title of the Scottish Prime Minister in 2021 – is now a free agent after leaving his work at Al Ettinia in Saudi Arabia. The former Liverpool captain was the last manager to win the Scottish title of the Prime Minister in 2021 and will be someone fans want to see again in Ibrox as a former midfielder Gennaro Gattusowho has impressed in Hajduk Split.
Former Gers defender Treble winner Kevin Muscat It was interviewed for the job for the last time and will no doubt be in the frame again. Since 2023 he has added the victories of his League title in Australia and Japan with a high flight wreath in China at the Shanghai Port.
Closer to the house, the chief of kilmarnock Derek mcinnes‘The name is always on the lips of the supports. The former Ibrox player once returned work in 2017, but continues to attract admirers.
Following their promotion by the championship, he led Killie to the fourth last season and European football, with a sixth top finish on the campaign despite a complicated start.
Former Gers defender Russell Martin It can also be in the frame and is out of work, after its dismissal from Southampton last year.
When he appointed Clement, former mayor John Bennett and former Cea James Bisgrove led the search. They described it as a “carefully planned and inclusive recruitment process”.
This time, Stewart, Thornton and Co know that they cannot afford to make it wrong and help the club break this cycle of constant managerial turmoil.
