The Crown Prosecution Service is reviewing a dossier of evidence relating to a Premier League footballer who was arrested on suspicion of rape.
The man, in his 30s, is accused of sexual offenses between 2021 and 2023. The Metropolitan Police have now referred their file to the CPS and the player remains under investigation as inquiries continue.
The footballer denies the accusations.
A spokesman for the force said: “Dating officers are investigating a number of reports of alleged sexual offenses between 2021 and 2023.
“A full file has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and detectives are continuing to work with prosecutors.
“Those who have come forward to the police continue to receive support from Met officers.”
The player, whose name has not been released, was first arrested in July 2022 on an allegation of rape by a woman in her 20s.
While in custody, he was further arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a second woman in April 2021 and June of that year.
The Metropolitan Police said it would take no further action in relation to the alleged incident in June 2021 because the relevant legislation had not come into force at the time.
In February 2023, police interviewed the man under surveillance about an alleged sexual offense said to have taken place in Barnet, north London, in February 2022.
This involved a third complainant and was reported in July 2022, police said.
Officers interviewed the Premier League footballer again, under caution, in November 2024.
KPS will now decide how to proceed, based on the evidence file provided by the Metropolitan Police. It is not known when a decision will be made.
