Barrie Mcdermott takes a look at what is set to be another party weekend while the super League’s magic weekend turns to Newcastle …
After a pulsating round of the Super League’s action last week, the excitement is already building for one of the best weekends in the Rugby League calendar – Magic Weekend 2025 – and once again, going back to the iconic St James’ park.
Newcastle will open his weapons for Rugby league fans from every corner of the country (and beyond!), Creating that excellent carnival atmosphere that only magic can give.
Saturday May 3 and Sunday May 4 promises to be two days of action, passion and memories.
A city that lives and breathes in Rugby League
If you were before, you know: Newcastle lives and breathes for the weekend.
From the fan zone outside the St. James’ to the buzzing roads around the city, fans are flooded by every club. Wherever you look at you will see fans with scarves, songs that are sung and flags fly.
It’s not just about games, but it’s about people, laughter, drama, community. We always say this is a community game.
The magic weekend is not just a list of matches, it is an experience.
2025 is forming to be one of the largest, but with the Super League table that seemed to end closer than ever. Bring your colors, bring your voice, bring your passion, because the magic is ready here.
Six blocking games; An extraordinary stadium
Formation? Is unrealistic. There are major rivalries, returns and statements that expect to be made:
Saturday: All matches in Sky Sport Action:
Leopards Leopards Vs Catalans Dragons (2.30 A afternoon, KO 3 in the afternoon)
Leigh are invincible in magic. The Catalans are desperate to seal their authority. This can set the tone for the whole weekend.
The Catalans come after a big win of the golden point against Wakefield and Leigh with a prevailing Salford in trouble, so this is a chance for both to show just why they should be considered contenders.
Hull Kr Vs Salford the Red Devils (5 in the afternoon, KO 5.15 in the afternoon)
Two of the league entertainment collide. Expect fireworks, downloads and perhaps a little chaos.
Of course, Hull Kr is in this match as clear favorites, right at the top of the league and the prevailing force at the moment. Salford will show heart and determination why.
St Helens Vs Leeds Rhinos (7.15 Afternoon, KO 7.30 Afternoon)
Meeting the saints and renews in Magic – for the first time ever! Two clubs with true stories, a lot of pride and a lot to try.
St. Helens are massively trying to put on the show while the Leeds are setting up shows, but not getting the result.
Both sides will want to make their mark, so they expect two old enemies to place a show.
Sunday: All matches in Sky Sport Action
Huddersfield Giants Vs Hull FC (12.30 Afternoon, KO 1PM)
Two sides looking for a spark. Will Huddersfield’s new stars shine, or will Hull FC loyal to something special?
The giants still don’t have a victory this season and know they have to change it and quickly. Hull, who enters this collision in the back of a heavy loss to Wigan, are safe and know they can fight the best boys of the League this year.
John Cartwright’s side will feel they can turn in winning ways.
Wigan Warriors Vs Warrington Wolves (3 Afternoon, 3.15 Afternoon KO)
A match of last year’s challenge Cup final. No love has lost here. Expect intensity, physical and real fireworks.
Wigan absolutely dominated Warrington in Las Vegas in what was a blocking collision so wolves would love to get back.
Sam Burgess’s side is down in troops, but as they showed against St. Helens, they will not be missing in the heart or soul.
Castleford Tigers Vs Wakefield Trinity (5.15pm. KO 5.30pm)
Wakefield are back and there is no greater way to let them know than to face their tougher rivals. Expect pure passion to close the weekend.
They put in an extraordinary battle just a few rounds ago, Wakefield winning from Golden Point and both sides will know how meaningful a victory in this match can be for their season.
