Rory Mcilroy has discovered Tiger Woods and Sir Elton John managed to congratulate him after his victory in masters in Augusta National.
Mcilroy defeated Justin Rose in a Play -off to become the sixth man – and the first European – to win each of the four Golf diplomas at least once.
The Northern Irishman completed the Grand Slam career on the 11th effort and 11 years after his previous great title – PGA 2014 Championship in Valhalla.
“Woods said, ‘Welcome to the Club, Kid’, which was just as delightful,” Mcilroy said, speaking in The Tonight Show Waited by Jimmy Fallon.
“There are only six people who have ever achieved the Grand Slam career in Golf, and there are only four of us living.
“Gary Player, who is 90, Jack Nicklaus, who is 86, and then Woods and I, so it’s really interesting to be part of something like that.”
British singer Sir Elton John also congratulated Mcilroy on his historic victory, the 35-year-old revealed.
“I got bored with the people who arrived from all the different spheres of life, be it culture or fun,” Mcilroy added.
“But the one who took me was Sir Elton John, that was extraordinary.
“I haven’t really been able to connect with him yet. It was his helper who left me a fairy and said Elton John would like to wish you personally.
“The only problem is that he doesn’t have a cellphone, so you can get a call from a number to Windsor from a fastening.
“He’s an icon. It is amazing. I mean, I didn’t even know Elton John knew what Golf was.”
Mcilroy revealed that he had been seeing Bridgerton and reading a John Grisham novel to help him turn off from Augusta’s pressures.
He also said he began to ask if he would ever reach Grand Slam career despite trying to approach the masters with a positive attitude every time.
“Everyone came to me and they were like,” Oh, you don’t know what you set us Sunday. I was like, “How do you think I was feeling? “,” Mcilroy said.
“Seriously, it was so exciting. I was just thinking,” Thank you kindness that is over.
“So it was 14 years since this, 11 years trying to reach the Grand Slam career. I come back every year, put my positive hat, go with a good attitude and every time I leave that evening on Sunday and it wouldn’t happen.
“You start to think about whether it will be your time. Did I miss, have I lost my opportunity? I think there is a good message there to never give up, continue to come back, be strong, be resilient. That patience was paid.”
