Rory Mcilroy and Shane Lowry go on the weekend still six strokes from the New Orleans Classic Classic Classic event after a costly completion for their secondly promising round.
The defensive champions ended their round in two-day forms with Bogeys back-back bogeys to throw them in a nine-route tie for 16th place after recording a round of three below 69 around TPC Luiziana.
The duo had been six under 12 holes and only two shots from the lead, with the emphasis again an eagle three in the second second for the second consecutive day.
However, they went three to close the six holes with a noise in the 13th forearm soon followed by two others in the first of the 17th and the 18th.
American duo Isaiah Salinda and Kevin Velo continue to lead the road even though they also shot 69 Friday the day after 14th in their Fourballs.
Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin are in the 16th round after a second round 66, with Denmark’s Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaar two back after attending their 59 opening with a 70.
The English duo David Skinns and Ben Taylor are fifth in the fifth place after a second round 67.
But Collin Morikawa and his game partner Kurt Kitayama failed to cut the cut after shooting a three-on 75, losing security sign 10 under two shots.
’11 under the worst result we could have ‘
For Mcilroy and Lowry there was a disappointment of the last day, but also the optimism they were playing well enough to force their way back to the quarrel until the second alternative Sunday.
“Hard hard not to think (that) we were six under 12, sailing, and then a bad conclusion,” said Mcilroy, who is playing for the first time since his historical triumph of masters.
“But I didn’t feel like playing so bad to have the conclusion we made. A couple of loose shots here and there. Harden.
“We know that we are really good in the quadrilateral format, we showed that today at most, so if we can climb back into some shootings of the lead going on Sunday, we feel like we will be in a good position.”
Lowry added: “We are definitely disappointed. I feel like 11 under is the worst result we could be for two days now with our end yesterday and today.
“But I feel like we can go low (Saturday) and get in the 20s under it and get after it, then on Sunday. As we showed today, foursomes is our thing and we can make the ground in the field there.”
Further eagles as one of them in the 562-pace of the second would certainly help that search.
Once Mcilroy had left it perfectly in the middle of the street out of the way out, Lowry struck a sensational approach of 242-Oborres shot in the back of Green, before the new Masters champion again playing its part again by sinking 11 feet.
“I am enjoying myself playing from about 340 (yards) below the middle of every street!” Lowry drew him to a node for his team’s ability.
