Salford can be hit with a charge of disrespect after campsing a spare team in their record 82-0 Betfred Super League in St Helens on Saturday.
Due to the restrictions of the salary lids, the Red Devils were denied the use of a number of elderly players, but leader Paul Rowley still chose to name three of those who had been available in the bench.
The Saints 15-proofing Rompa was the largest winning margin in the history of Super League and attracted criticism from rivals including Warrington Sam Burgess that he compromised the integrity of the competition.
The match was broadcast live Heavenly AND Bbc two And he hit a great opening weekend, which saw the first 0-0 draw with regular time between Wigan and Leigh (the latter winning at the Golden Point Extra-Time), and Wakefield’s stunning victory in Leeds.
The news agency of PA Understands that RFL chiefs will meet Monday to determine whether Salford will be the subject of a compliance investigation that may result in a charge of violating operational rules.
These rules include the request that each club “always has a team of enough players to meet his obligations in all competitions”.
If he is charged and then found guilty, the club may face a series of sanctions, although it is not thought that a discount of points would be one of them.
Salford announced the completion of a Friday’s receipt, ending a period of financial turmoil asking them to appoint a limited team for last week’s Comp Chalenge’s Comp Challenge victory in the Midlands Hurricanes.
Because of the time he highlights, the salary lid remained in place for Saturday, and Rowley said after losing the saints that he was told that he could not use any of the players who had filed against Midlands.
He added that his decision not to start with any of the remaining older players available against St. Helens was due to familiarity issues.
“I can’t put half a team made of reserves (and first team) and introduce them all on the bus because I don’t think it’s the right thing to do,” Rowley said.
However, Salford was struck by Leigh Derek Beaumont leader, who accused them of “complete disrespect” of the competition in a social media post in strong words, and Warrington Sam Burgess’s main coach also said a new campaign.
Speaking after his 20-12 victory of his team in Huddersfield, Burgess said: “I think the weekend has been great. The games have been fantastic, stopping debut when we all know.
“I think this is poorly treated and the lack of leadership by all. It is a kind of black brand in competition.
“It removes from the integrity of the table. You see how close it ended last year and a year ago, it will have a direct impact at the end of the year.
“The integrity of the league is affected. I just say the truth about it, so as we reached that stage I don’t know.”
