Steve Smith announced his retirement by one-day international cricket on Wednesday after the semi-finals of the Australian Champions in India.
The Winner of the World Cup twice Smith Captain Australia to defeat Tuesday, scoring a 73-year-old loss to India in Dubai, after the 35-year-old then confirmed his departure from the format.
The 35-year-old confirmed that he would remain acceptable for tests and twenty20 internationals.
“It’s been a great trip and I’ve loved every minute of it,” Smith said.
“There has been so much amazing time and wonderful memories. Winning the two World Cups was a great accent along with many fantastic teammates who shared the trip.
“Cricket test remains an advantage and I am really looking forward to the World Test Championship final, the West Indies in winter and then England at home. I think I still have a lot to contribute to that stage.”
Smith ends his career ODI with 170 appearances, ranking as the 16th most captured men player in Australia in the 50’s format and the 12th top scorer. He captured Australia at 64 of those one-day matches.
Smith Rues lost the opportunity with Bat in India loss
After losing the champions trophy to India, Australia’s captain Smith said:
“I thought our players did a really good job. They worked hard all over.
“They were not the easiest conditions of filling, which is probably why the results were what they were. After saying that, I thought we could have placed some other runs on the board.
“We lost the wickets at important periods. If we had received 280-plus, things could have been different.”
