Leeds Rhino’s coach Brad Arthur and Warrington Wolves coach Sam Burgess both asked the standard of trial after their clash in the 5,000 Super League match.
Warrington fought again with two attempts in the last quarter to complete a 16-14 victory that hit them up to third place on the Super League table, with Rhino staying in the sixth.
The winning exam of the match by Jake Thewis came just moments after Keenan Palasia was sent to the sin of sin for a high blow to Lachlan Fitzgibbon who was one of the two incidents that Arthur asked.
Leeds was given a scrum with 10 seconds left an hour, but Judge Tom Grant judged that Leeds was not packaged in time with six players inside. However, the rule says that when it is in 12 players, only five players have to pack in the scrum.
This led Arthur to conclude that he should “deceive” more about the judges and that in such great moments, they must be much clearer to know the letter of law.
“I have seen many of those five rounds in (treats unpunished like Palasia), so maybe as a coach I will have to complain more and deceive for the judge,” Arthur said Heavenly.
“We have really worked hard in our discipline and we cannot be less penalized teams in the competition during the first four or five games and then we came here tonight and get seven penalties in the second half.”
“We packed five in the scrum already. Our players were told we had only five in the scrum, which is why it couldn’t pack,” he added.
“We still had 10 seconds. The opportunity to win from there is in the distance, but it doesn’t matter, there are still 10 seconds left.
“You can’t blow only time. They need to know the rules. There are only 12 players, five in the scrum. We had five in the scrum.”
Burgess agreed with Arthur for the Scrum’s incident, but there were some of his issues, speaking of grant in half of about two passions he believed were in front of the effort.
“I just asked about a few crossings ahead that I thought were quite visible in really important times,” Burgess said. “I just wanted to know if he thought they were ahead.
“I know he has a difficult job, but they are really great calls and he has two touching judges. I feel like I have to ask that question, I ask very privately last week, hindrance calls, Zane Mustrove Push, some really big calls. So I just asked if he saw them or seeing things.
“Was done in a good way, I just wanted to know if I’m out of the mark or if he thought they were at least the limit. He said he called them as he saw them, which is quite right.”
