Two knights have died and another suffered significant injuries after a “catastrophic accident” during a British SuperSport championship race in Oulton Park.
Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, suffered fatal injuries in a collision with 11 bicycles in the first corner of the opening lap.
Tom Tunstall, 47, was transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital with significant back and abdomen injuries. The other five knights were treated on track for minor injuries, while three others were rescued unharmed.
A statement from organizers Motorsport Vision Racing read: “At the beginning of the British British Supersport Championship competition this afternoon in Oulton Park, coming out of the turn one, the old corner of the hall in the first lap, had a chain reaction incident involving 11 knights.
“The race stopped immediately and trackside medical services were placed.
“Due to the extreme severity of the incident and continued medical intervention, the rest of the British Bennets British Championship event was canceled.
“This catastrophic accident has resulted in tragic way that two knights are fatally injured, and another significant injury.
“Racing Circuit Circuit Motor Circing and Motorsport Vision Racing are investigating full incident circumstances related to Coroner and Cheshire Constabulary.”
