Luke Humphries came through a real battle with Beau Greaves to complete a tough 10-7 win and move in the last 32 UK open in Minehead.
Greaves had already created history in her open debut in the UK winning her first three games on the day of opening against Stefan Bellmont, Rhys Griffin and Mickey Mansel to move on to the fourth round, and was looking even more when she took over the 2024 World Champion.
The World Women’s player No. 1 departed for a sensational start with crates of 126 and 124, helping him in the 3-2 lead in the first break, before Humphries fight again to bring the competition the entire square to 5-5.
Greaves then managed to move 7-5 ahead with a shooting break, but the main moment came to the 15th game when Humphries found his break to move 8-7 forward and leading for the first time.
From there, some superior notes from ‘Cool Hand’ helped her over the line, humphries returning Greaves back to the stage for a much deserved rating from the crowd of Butlin.
“I really liked the game. It was great fun and Beau played stunning,” Humphries said Itv sport.
“She’s a fantastic player and she really had to get the best in me. The ladies game has grown massively and that’s because of it.
“If it had been a Premier League game, she would have beaten me. She’s probably a top-64 player in the world, but you don’t want to put too much pressure on her.”
Greaves herself admitted that her game crashed into the last pair of legs, but her UK debut will only be a positive experience for her career.
“I left well and I knew at the end of the match I left a little. That’s what I’m working on my game,” she said.
“What experience. Playing someone like Luke will only help my game. I just liked to watch it.
“Is a learning curve, I’m happy and I had a good game.”
Humphries will now face close friend Ryan Searle in the fifth round.
Luke Little Holding a lot of performance by Peter Wright to complete a 10-9 win on a crucial leg to move to the last 32, where he will face Jermaine wattimena.
Wright, the UK opened champion 2017, won three legs in the 14-back-back-back to move 3-2 forward and then found another magic with three tons-plus conclusions, followed by a 12 dart break to get the game all the way.
However, the 18-year-old world champion stood against the shooting and raised the peaks from 170, bringing it the first arrow to advance.
Michael van Gerwen held a late attack by Dirk Van Duijvenbode to reserve his country in the fifth round against Robert Owen.
On average over 107 in the first session, Van Duijvenbode managed to move forward with a 3-2 advantage, but constantly let Van Gerwen turn off with double it, which saw world 3 take six feet to move 7-3 up.
Despite encountered 8-7, Van Duijvenbode left himself a lot to do and Van Gerwen managed to grind the 10-8 victory.
Jonny Clayton was in trivial form as it destroyed Gary Anderson on the main scene in Minehead to set a collision with Alan Sautar.
Clayton went into 4-1 lead, a laying break plus a silky crate 121 giving the ‘Ferret’ the advantage in a quick meeting.
From there, the Welshman tried in an 8-2 advantage, finishing the match at the top for an eventual 10-3 victory.
