The head of Hull Kr, Willie Peters know that no “additional motivation” is required when playing their rivals Hull FC on Friday.
Peter Robins were flying high in the Super League after receiving their 2025 Super League season after a tremendous run with six invincible games.
However, they returned to the ground on the ground at a 28-12 loss to reign the Wigan champions last week, giving Hull Kr memory that the competition has a long way to go.
Meanwhile, Hull FC withdrew from their loss of the Cup Derby challenge with a 28-16 statement to Warrington Wolves, giving themselves the opportunity to cross the first place from their enemies with a victory on Friday.
While Hull Kr are 1-0 up at Derby Tally this season, black and whites have a chance to claim first place from their old enemy and retaliate their Cup exit at the largest stages.
With all that in the game, Peter believes his players will be more motivated than ever, and if they are not, they will not be in a robins shirt that goes ahead.
“I think it’s very easy mentally (to make the players go for a derby). You don’t have to motivate too much to make them go for these types of games, the motivation will be there,” Peters said.
“The atmosphere was electric at the MK stadium a few weeks ago and it will be great this week.
“Of course, they are coming from the back of a great victory for them (VS Warrington), so we know what we are waiting for in terms of atmosphere.
“As a coach, you don’t have to get players motivated this week because you like to think they’re already motivated to be.
“If we win. We stay on top of the Super League, if FC wins they can go to the top.
“But it’s not about that, it’s a derby. If players are looking for motivation this week I will probably not choose them by moving forward if they look for motivation this week.”
While Hull Kr Drip Trump in that 32-16 Challenge Cup win, Peter knows that John Cartwright’s team will always be for a “big game” and will have the same attitude on Friday.
“They’re a team that doesn’t leave. They’ve been in every single game,” Peter added.
“We obviously left with him and got into a good lead, but they fought for their return and returned to the game.
“Then the week after they play a very good Warrington team in their country and have a good win.
“I knew before that they got a lot of experience, they got big game players, so there are not much more I learned because I already knew and respect what they had before playing them and I respect what they have done since.
“Will derby despite the staircase position is always an important game in the calendar and we look forward to it.”
