Ronnie O’Sullivan and Luca Brecel ended up one of the fastest intersection sessions in history, as they took just over a quarter of an hour to seal their respective places in the Snooker World Championship.
The two former winners returned on Monday evening, each looking for a single frame to complete the victories respectively over Pang Junxu and Ding Junhui.
Breceel won the sprint in the dressing room as he called a 71 break to see the finalist of 2016 13-4, and he was quickly followed by O’Sullivan, who rested on a 95 break to complete his victory over the same result.

The appreciation of his form as “probably two out of 10”, O’Sullivan, who will face another Chinese opponent, like JiAhi, in the last eight, added: “I didn’t worry about taking it quickly – I need all the time of the table I can get.
“I think I attracted them (my opponents) to a weaker level. I think they were expecting me to play better and they were probably shocked that I didn’t, but I don’t think how it would fall on that trap, and that’s what makes it dangerous.”
