Do not fly your drone into an active fire. Although capturing video of the destruction can be tempting, it can stop firefighters from doing their job. That’s exactly what happened in Los Angeles on January 9, when a drone collided with a ‘Super Scooper’ firefighting plane, the LA Times reports.
It came as LA battles its worst wildfire in history, burning thousands of homes and killing at least 10. The drone crash forced the plane to abort its mission and touch down elsewhere for repairs. Photos of the plane show a visible hole in one of its wings:
Police are now trying to find out who was flying the drone, the LA Times reported, and the incident is under investigation by the FAA. The LA Fire Department warned that flying a drone during firefighting efforts is punishable by up to 12 months in jail or a $75,000 fine.
