Openai may soon require organizations to complete an ID verification process in order to access some future models of him, according to a support site published on the company’s website last week.
The verification process, called the verified organization, is “a new way for developers to unlock access to the most advanced models and skills on the OpenAI platform,” the site said. Verification requires a government -issued ID from one of the countries supported by the Openai AP. An ID can only verify one organization every 90 days, and not all organizations will be eligible to verify, Openai says.
“In Openai, we take our responsibility seriously to ensure that it is widely accessible and safely used,” the site reads. “Unfortunately, a small minority of developers deliberately use OpenAi APIs in violation of our use policies. We are adding the verification process to mitigate the unsafe use of it as we continue to make advanced models available to the wider community of developers.”
Openai issued a new status of verified organization as a new way for developers to unlock access to the most advanced patterns and skills on the platform, and be ready for “other exciting model”

The new verification process may aim to improve security about Openai products as they become more sophisticated and capable. The company has published several reports on its efforts to detect and mitigate the malicious use of its models, including groups allegedly based on North Korea.
May be intended to prevent theft of IP. According to a report by Bloomberg earlier this year, Openai was investigating if a group associated with Deepseek, Lab based in China, examined large amounts of data through his API at the end of 2024, perhaps for training models-a violation of Openai’s conditions.
Openai blocked the entrance to its services in China last summer.
