Apple has changed its App Store rules to the US to allow applications to connect users to their websites so that they can buy reconciliation or other digital goods.
This change comes after an American court placed in favor of epic games on an issue against the iPhone manufacturer, ordering the latter not to stop applications to include features that can redirect users on their websites to make digital purchases.
“The application review guidelines have been updated for compliance with a United States Court decision regarding buttons, external links and other apps for apps,” Apple said in a blog post.
The judicial proceeding that Epic Games brought in 2020 had to do with the amount of control that Apple had on transactions made in the expected applications in its app store. In 2021, Game Studio won an order that Apple ordered to give developers more opportunities to redirect users on their websites so that they could avoid paying the technology giant a 30%cut.
After his appeal against the order failed, Apple began to allow other applications to link and use non-apple payment mechanisms last year, but still received a 27%commission, and also added what critics called “fear screens”.
This week’s decision means that Apple should stop showing these “intimidation screens”, and the company has already removed the instructions on how these screens and connections must contain certain languages.
We have asked Apple to confirm whether it would stop the app uploading a payment commission made through external links, and we will update the story if we hear again.

As for Apple, it is not happy with the ruling. “We do not strongly agree with the decision. We will respect the court order and appeal,” the company said in a statement.
Spotify, who has also been struggling with Apple for the same issue in different geography, has already presented a version of his app in the American app store with links to let users buy his abroad.
