Apple General Director Tim Cook said that of Deepseek’s models represent “innovation that runs efficiency” during a profit call on Thursday while campsizing questions from analysts about the ambitions of the iPhone manufacturer.
“In general, I think that the innovation that runs efficiency is a good thing. And, you know, this is what you see in that model,” Cook said, answering the question of an analyst how Deepseek’s models of that of Deepseek would affect Apple’s borders.
Cook continued to notice that Apple Lever a hybrid pattern for him, in which he directs some simple tasks in place – using his own models of he in silicone chips of her device. Meanwhile, other, more complicated tasks are directed to the Cloud through partnerships with the model providers.
Cook also said Apple has always taken a “careful and deliberate” approach to these types of expenses.
Apple currently has only one partnership, with Openai, who allows chatgpt to answer complex questions from iPhone users in a private cloud.
Openai claimed this week that there was evidence that his models he had been used to train Deepseek’s models through a process called distillation. If it is true, this would violate the Openai use policies and undermine Deepseek’s achievements.
This did not stop Apple’s CEO from throwing a compliment to Deepseek.
Apple has shown that its Openai partnership is not exclusive, and can integrate the models of other companies into the iPhone in the future, such as Google or Anthropic’s Claude twins. Cook didn’t go far enough to suggest that Apple integrate Deepseek’s models, however.
Beyond Openai’s allegations of stealing IP, some technology analysts have suggested that Deepseek’s models were significantly trained more GPU and cost of calculation than company claims. This would mean that Deepseek’s models were not trained as effective as some suspects. However, the Chinese lab sells access to its models at a steep discount compared to what it loads that Labs American.
Investors also printed Cook with questions about the success of Apple Intelligence.
Launching Apple’s features does not seem to have created the immediate increase in the iPhone sales that some predicted. Instead, sales decreased slightly in the last quarter, compared to last year.
Hoping to rotate the fall more favorably, Cook claimed that the company without stronger sales in regions where Apple Intelligence was rotated than the regions where it did not.
Apple has faced other issues with his features of him, beyond their lack of availability. Recently she banned her collections of news articles this month after the show produced fraudulent titles. On one occasion, Apple Intelligence Halucinoi and changed a BBC News title to read mistakenly that Luigi Mangione, the man accused in the murder of CEO of UNITESHEALTHCARE Brian Thompson, had shot himself, which was untrue.
